This assignment is funded by the Benue State Government, Nigeria. Therefore, specific eligibility criteria apply: - Only Benue state citizens resident in Nigeria are eligible to apply.

The protracted humanitarian crisis in Nigeria's northeastern states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe remains one of the world's most severe and complex. Ongoing conflict, marked by sporadic attacks and displacement, has severely impacted millions of people. Security threats, movement restrictions, and insufficient funding continue to hinder humanitarian efforts to deliver life-saving aid to those in dire need. The crisis is predominantly a protection crisis characterized by grave violations of human rights and dignity. Protection concerns including killings and maiming, sexual violence and abuse, arbitrary arrests and detention without access to justice and legal services, forced recruitment, abductions forced marriages and forced displacement remain a major concern for the physical and mental wellbeing of IDPs, returnees and host communities in the BAY states. The Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) 2024 estimates that 7.9 million people are still in need of humanitarian assistance. In response to the situation, UNFPA is currently working with the Government authorities, UN sister agencies and non-governmental organizations on the prevention and response to GBV, as well as delivery of a comprehensive SRH services to the affected population.

Under the direct supervision of Humanitarian Coordinator and his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Gender Based Violence Associate will undertake the following tasks: • Assist in the provision of oversight and technical leadership to GBV programmes in BAY States. • Participate in adapting rapid assessment tools and facilitating field assessment on the needs and gaps of GBV prevention and response services. • Assist in ensuring the GBV issues are integrated into other assessments conducted by other sectors/clusters. • Support quality and timely implementation of UNFPA’s GBViE programme. • Assist in providing technical and programmatic support to other national staff, different implementing partners, and national authorities in BAY States and beyond in planning and implementing of GBV programme. • Support the planning, distribution and monitoring of UNFPA’s commodities including the dignity kits. • Assist in conducting training of UNFPA staff, implementing partners and other national authorities in planning and implementation of GBV prorammes related to IDPs/returnees. • Assist in ensuring application of effective planning, monitoring and evaluation to track pro-gramme implementation and provide required feedback for performance excellence. • Contribute to the preparation of reports, including the regular situation reports, project updates report and donor reports as required.

provision of humanitarian technical assistance, programming and management of GBViE projects. • Knowledge of IASC minimum standards for addressing GBV in Emergencies.
• Experience in working in hardship fragile context is an advantage. • Proficiency in applying the Microsoft Office package.
• Experience in providing training/workshops is an asset.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
