  • COVID-19 Response
  • Emergency response, immediate relief operations, and post-conflict humanitarian aid operations

Videos from the Guangdong province of China that showed maltreatment of some Africans over COVID-19 fears had gone viral in the social media space in Africa, sparking outrage and increasing the hate against Chinese. This led to several threats and calls for retaliatory attacks on Chinese living in the African continent. To douse the tension and prevent reprisal attacks on the lives, properties and businesses of the Chinese in Africa, PASDO launched the China-Africa Peace Initiative (CAPI). Under CAPI, some well-meaning Chinese volunteers have produced more than one hundred videos in which they send their empathy to Africans while affirming their non-hatred for blacks, restating the position of the Chinese government that China treats all foreigners equally, and calling for friendship. Comments and reactions from Africans on the few CAPI videos resealed so far on social media show high acceptability and good potential to douse the hate. But a challenge has emerged. The videos can only reach a good number of Africans on social media if they are promoted as sponsored posts through paying the social media platforms. Hence, the need to raise funds to push out the videos.

  • Volunteers: 25 needed

  • 6-10 hours per week / 4 weeks

Each volunteer must have the ability to work independently. They must be able to provide us with regular updates via emails and WhatsApp, hence full contact details should be provided.
