Context

The External Relations Department (ExRel) is responsible for engaging with private individuals and organisations to build awareness about NRC and raise funds for the organisations work for people forced to flee. To achieve this, ExRel operate across four main areas; Public Engagement ensuring that the voice of NRC and the people we serve is being heard; Global Fundraising raising unearmarked funds from private individuals for NRCs mission; Donor Management securing our income from regular donors; and Corporate Relations collaborating with the private corporate sector to attract and maintain grants and pro bono resources for the organisation; Governance and Compliance ensuring that department activities are aligned in a way that supports the department overall goals and are operated in a way that meets the laws and regulations within each country of operation.

What you will do

Working with the section and department directors along with Global finance, the Exrel’s Financial Adviser will provide leadership on financial matters to ensure good budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of Exrel’s income and expenditure. In addition the role is reasonable for developing good insights and models that enable NRC to understand return on investment and other metrics that support the investments made.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include;

  • Analyse and monitor all Exrel budgets, income and expenditures, for reporting, insight and compliance.
  • Provide financial reporting for Exrel to global finance meeting GF reporting schedule and requirements, including profit and loss statements and KPI reports.
  • Work with section directors to ensure they understand finances of their section, get their insights for forecasts and variances to expenditure/income.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to predict income and ROI for all Exrel investments.
  • Provide financial reporting for NRC Sweden to NRC Sweden board and NRC Global Finance.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies related to income from private donors.
  • Analyse department/section revenue and expenditure trends and recommends appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
  • Maintain up to date accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
  • Supervise input and handling of financial data and reports for NRCs financial system.
  • Advice and support to all Exrel Directors on financial matters.

What you will bring

  • Minimum 5 year of relevant financial management experience with a demonstrated understanding of the financial processes.
  • Numerate and ability to do financial modelling.
  • Ability to use Microsoft tools e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Eye for details, analytical and structured.
  • Ability to manage resources to optimize results.
  • Strong ability to work with, assist and motivate colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate with impact and respect, both to internally and towards NRC suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, other languages an advantage.
