Overview

Volunteer to translate and proofread competency frameworks from English to French

You have:

  • Fluency in French and English is required, preferably native in French.
  • Previous translation experience, especially related to human resources, child protection, or humanitarian action, is an asset.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines is essential.
  • Availability to work full-time for 3 weeks (20+ hours per week).
  • Background in child protection, humanitarian action, or human resources is an advantage.

The Child Protection Area of Responsibility is looking for 3 volunteers to translate and proofread two documents - two competency frameworks on child protection - from English to French. Two volunteers will translate the competency frameworks from English to French and one volunteer will review and proofread the translations to ensure quality and consistency throughout the documents. The documents describe key competencies that child protection staff should have and are 67 pages long in pdf format. The volunteers will be asked to start ASAP and to work on the document full-time in order to finish the translation and proofreading within 2 weeks. The volunteers will be able to strengthen their knowledge of human resources and child protection during the process of translation. The work of the volunteers is highly valuable and will allow to make the competency framework available to French speaking audiences.

    Child Protection is an Area of Responsibility (AoR) within the Global Protection Cluster. The CP AoR aims at ensuring that the efforts of national and international humanitarian actors to protect children are well coordinated, achieving maximum quality and impact. The CP AoR is seeking the support of 3 volunteers to make the competency framework available to child protection actors in French-speaking humanitarian contexts. The volunteers' work will thus be highly valuable.

    The volunteers should be fluent in French (preferably native) and English. A background in translation, child protection, humanitarian action or human resources is an advantage. Previous translation experience of translating to French (especially documents related to human resources, child protection or humanitarian action) is an asset. The volunteers need to be able to work under tight deadlines. Applicants may be asked to translate a text as part of the selection process.
