Job Description

Job Overview: The Financial Capability Specialist is a member of IRC Atlanta’s Financial Capability Team Program in the Economic Empowerment Department. The Financial Capability Specialist is responsible for supporting clients in their efforts to save money, earn matching funds, and grow their assets. Specifically, the Financial Capability Specialist will undertake tasks such as boosting program recruitment for Individual Development Account (IDA), screening and enrolling new clients, conducting financial literacy instruction, and maintaining program compliance with grant guidelines. The Financial Capability Specialist will also assist department staff with additional financial empowerment tasks on behalf of clients.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Facilitate clients’ acquisition of Georgia identification documents.

- Assist Matching Grant clients with opening checking accounts. - Work closely with the Employment team to identify clients who are ready to receive services from the IDA and the Financial Coaching programs. - Work with Matching Grant clients to complete family budgets. - Conduct financial literacy trainings on subjects including banking, budgeting, and credit, and provide additional support to other financial literacy workshops. - Recruit new clients to the IDA Program through external and internal pipelines. - Conduct pre-screening, intake, and eligibility assessment with potential clients of the IDA Program. Complete family budget appointments and financial capability assessments for each eligible client or household. - Determine clients’ eligibility through the IDA pre-enrollment/intake process. - Open IDA savings accounts for clients at the CDC Federal Credit Union. - Maintain detailed client files and records of clients’ eligibility documents and IDA requirement data. Detail each client interaction in accordance with program requirements. Input client information in database(s) and assist with tracking and reporting as needed. - Monitor clients’ progress with IDA Program requirements.

- Collaborate effectively with partner organizations. Maintain relationships with area service providers, including ECBOs, community leaders, and other refugee-serving agencies, for the benefit of clients. - May train and lead the activities of support staff, volunteers, and interns. - Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Undergraduate degree is highly preferred.

Work Experience:

- Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred. - Knowledge of U.S. financial literacy basics strongly preferred (on topics including banking, family budgeting, and credit).

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

- Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. - Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. - Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively. - Close attention to detail and accuracy in work product. - Proficient in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired, including Dari, Farsi, Pashto, and/or Arabic. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes. - Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. - May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
