Role Summary

We seek a highly skilled and motivated Financial Accountant to join our global company; you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards across multiple regions. Working closely with the finance team, you will contribute to preparing financial statements, analysing financial data, and supporting internal and external audit processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, multinational environment.

Your primary duties will include preparing financial statements, analysing financial data, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards in both jurisdictions.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and practices in both the US and the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring accuracy in audit preparation workings and Financial Statements for the Institute’s group accounts
  • Supporting the audits and completion of financial statements for all Institute subsidiaries
  • Managing the audit processes so that audits are completed on time and within budget
  • Ensuring the Statutory Financial Statements are completed, audited, signed and filed by deadline
  • Ensuring the management accounts are accurate and reflective to our statutory accounts
  • Building rapport with all stakeholders, especially external auditors, so that information is shared effectively and collaboratively
  • Assisting the production of the tax accounts as well as relevant tax returns in each jurisdiction and support with queries
  • Ability to challenge others if you perceive a transaction/document/decision to be incorrect or damaging to the organisation
  • Anticipate and mitigate any concerns or risks appropriately and escalate where necessary to senior management
  • Proactively contribute to the implementation of best practice guidelines and methodology for Finance policies and processes
  • Support the establishment of the Institute’s subsidiary companies in the Americas region
  • Ad-hoc support to the Financial Controller

Person Specification

The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change aims to equip political leaders and governments to build open, inclusive, and prosperous societies in an interconnected world. We do this by developing policies and advising governments.

The post holder will be able to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with various stakeholders globally. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong analytical skills, and ensure compliance and accounting standards along with best practice. You will also effectively manage your time to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines effectively deadlines.

Therefore, the successful candidate for the role should be able to display the majority of the following:

  • Relevant experience in all areas of consolidated financial statements, reporting under UK GAAP
  • Relevant experience of working with US GAAP
  • Relevant accounting qualification or relevant technical experience
  • Experience in preparing statutory financial statements
  • Audit experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong communicator, confident and clear in presenting financial information to Institute stakeholders, including the Senior Executive Team and Regional Managing Director
  • Ability to challenge others if you perceive a transaction/document/decision to be incorrect or damaging to the organization
  • Proactively contribute to the implementation of best practice guidelines and methodology for Finance policies and processes
  • Demonstrate discretion with sensitive information
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise against tight deadlines
  • Comfortable with the demands of organisational growth at a pace and a varied and, at times, unpredictable workload
  • Ability to deliver feedback to colleagues working globally, support colleague development and help shape the procedures of the Institute.
