Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue to implement humanitarian response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Finance Team Leader in the city of Sumy.

About the job:

Under the supervision of the Area Manager of the DRC office in Sumy, the Finance Team Leader will manage the day-to-day operations of the finance department at the DRC office in Sumy. The Finance Team Leader will lead and supervise the junior finance staff, assigning tasks to ensure the effective and timely completion of daily duties.

Your main responsibilities will be:

People Management:

  • Lead and manage the finance department;
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensure regular planning and proper distribution of workload among subordinates;
  • Be responsible for human resource management, efficiency, staff wellbeing, and development.

Finance and Accounting:

  • Budget monitoring and forecasting – review of budget expenditures and consolidation of information required for forecast preparation;
  • Allocation of shared costs (fuel, salary, rent, etc.) based on reported expenses confirmed by relevant supporting documents;
  • Reviewing documents and checking expenditures for alignment with budget lines in order to correct them if necessary and ensure expenditures are within the available budget;
  • Verifying accounting records for compliance with internal DRC guidelines and Ukrainian legislation in an accurate and timely manner, reviewing and approving journals before posting;
  • Ensuring timely month-end accounting, including cash counts and bank reconciliation;
  • Reviewing Purchase Requisitions (PRs) and Requests for Payments (RfPs);
  • Assisting with audits of each project;
  • Participating in the harmonization of operational work between regional and base offices: sharing ideas, creating tools, updating guidelines, etc.;
  • Providing other financial support to the Base Office and preparing reports upon the manager's request.

About you:

To be successful in this role we expect you to have proven experience in finance for at least 5 years, minimum of 3 years of successful experience leading a finance department, including supervision, mentoring, and team performance management. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Strong understanding of budgeting principles and processes.
  • Relevant diplomas/certifications in finance or accounting would be an advantage.
  • Ability to prepare analytical reports and presentations.
  • Experience in reviewing and approving accounting journals prior to posting; ensuring timely month-end closure, including cash counts and bank reconciliations.
  • Experience working in INGOs is desirable.
  • Ability to solve non-standard tasks and make sound decisions.
  • High level of communication skills and ability to establish effective cooperation.
  • Accuracy in document processing.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Financial literacy.
  • English level: Advanced (speaking/reading/writing).
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian.

We offer:

  • Contract length: 3 month probation period and 12 months renewable depending on performance and funding.
  • Band: G-Management.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Sumy.
  • Start date: November 1st, 2025.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
