Street Child is searching for a passionate finance professional with a 'business development' mentality to manage and enhance our financial operations across Europe, with a particular focus on Spain.

Street Child is one of the world's fastest-growing children's charities. In less than 15 years we have made a material impact on the lives of nearly a million children - but the desire, potential and need to go so much further, and to reach millions more children in need of safety and a quality education, is what motivates us every day. To do this, we urgently need to grow our finance systems - this role is a vital step.

The key objective of this role is to run the financial management and administration for Street Child’s operations in Spain and Europe (Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland). The Finance Officer will work in the centre of our rapidly evolving organization, collaborating closely with the Spanish, European and international teams, i.e. interacting with EU country managers, treasurers, the UK finance team and our local partner organizations in our project countries. Managing effectively the multiple priorities of these various stakeholders will be crucial for the candidate. To evolve our EU finance capacity, you will review and improve current financial systems, internal processes and identify opportunities for global synergies. Lastly, the role will also support various administrative functions.

You will report into the director, Street Child Europe and have a dotted line to the Street Child UK finance department and Street Child Spain country manager.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Finance and Accounting:

  • Year end financial statements, statutory reporting, tax compliance, purchasing and procurement
  • Deliver all functions related to Accounts Receivable
  • Lead the Accounts Payable process ensuring prompt and accurate payment of all invoices and country transfers
  • Month end reporting and reconciliation
  • Conduct a thorough review of current financial systems and solutions, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Leverage synergies for EU-wide finance support and controlling.
  • Explore opportunities for outsourcing certain financial tasks.
  • Improve internal processes, including integrating EU finances into HQ and finalizing the Aqilla transition for six entities.
  • Provide financial oversight and support for payments, relationship management with Eurogrup (legal and payroll advisors), and payroll processes.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations specific to our Foundation Street Child Spain and support EU wide compliance.

2. Administrative Support:

  • Assist with administrative tasks, including payments related to SCES/SCUK in Spain.
  • Manage relationships with external partners and providers.
  • Support with the preparation of financial reports and documentation.

3. Collaboration and Synergy:

  • Work closely with the finance team to identify and implement global finance synergies.
  • Coordinate with international colleagues to ensure efficient financial management across the organization.
  • Work closely with HQ team to facilitate good communication and financial reporting to the HQ.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience in finance, accounting, and administration within a foundation or similar organization in Spain.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish administrative and financial regulations.
  • Equivalent or above secondary education.
  • A Good understanding of double entry bookkeeping
  • Full or partial Accountancy qualification
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Aqilla or similar financial management systems.
  • Previous experience in a non-profit or international organization.
  • Familiarity with supporting European or international finance functions.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Spanish.

The role is envisaged as part-time (50-80%) as staff or consultant, working from our office in the centre of Barcelona, four days of the week - but alternative arrangements will be considered. This is a newly created role and therefore Street Child is open and encourages the successful candidate to grow the role in the medium/long-term if their skills match the needs of the organisation.
