The unit’s work is cross-cutting in nature, providing support to UNICEF’s Supply Division, Regional and Country Offices, and collaborating with other Divisions and external supply partners. The position ensures seamless processing of financial transactions in line with UNICEF Financial Regulations and Rules and related procedures.

How Can You Make a Difference?

Under the supervision of the Finance Officer, the position provides a continuous update of procedures related to crisis management and streamline processes for effectiveness. Assists in timely processing, recording, monitoring, and maintaining of financial transactions and accounts relating to payments and receipts in accordance with UNICEF Financial Regulations and Rules and generally accepted accounting principles.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summary of key functions/accountabilities of the Finance Assistant:

  1. Analysis and monitoring of staff balances (Personal Advance and Recoveries), related payments and collection of receivables.
  2. Timely filing and follow up on VAT and energy tax claims in line with government regulations. Provides guidance to centres on related tax issues.
  3. Manage changes in vendor master data as requested by suppliers including change of bank details in liaison with Global Shared Service Centre (GSSC) and in accordance with UNICEF policies and procedures.
  4. Ensures accurate and timely recording of receipts as reflected in the daily bank statements and liaises with the bank to resolve any queries.
  5. Takes necessary action to investigate bank errors and address payments and receipts queries from staff, partners and suppliers etc. Also responds to related audit queries.
  6. Timely processing of funds transfers to ensure adequate cover of scheduled payments.

  7. Performing other tasks and ad-hoc projects that may be assigned by the Supervisor or Centre Chief.

Candidates should be service-oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective working relationship with suppliers, customers and colleagues, and be well organized and able to handle voluminous financial transactions effectively, efficiently and accurately.

Required:

  • Secondary education with commercial school or certificate in Finance or Accounting
  • Five years of progressively responsible work experience in finance or accounting
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards (IPSAS)
  • Good knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP and MS Office package, particularly advanced Excel

  • Experience in interpreting complex financial data

  • Fluency in English

  • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residence permit as such an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF

Desirable:

  • University courses in Finance and Accounting
  • Prior working experience with SAP ERP FI module
  • Knowledge of the Danish tax system
  • Proficiency in Danish written and reading skills
