Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Danish Refugee Council is currently looking for a highly qualified Finance (Accounting) Manager to join our team in Kyiv office.

About the job

The Accounting Manager will lead the organization's Accounting sub-unit, ensuring compliance with Ukrainian legislation and reporting requirements. This pivotal role involves developing and implementing policies and standard operating procedures, providing on-the-job support, and building capacity of the project and support staff. The Accounting Manager will structure the team's tasks for maximum efficiency. Managing a team of 3 Accountants at the country office, the Accounting Manager and team will provide technical support to Accountants at Area and Base offices across Ukraine.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), standard tools, templates, and guidance documents in cooperation with managers to streamline accounting processes and minimum requirements
  • Support the development of an accounting policy and compliance tools
  • Create and maintain a checklist of the minimum supporting documents required to comply with Ukrainian legislation, updating it as new activities are identified.
  • Ensure timely delivery of accounting reports to fiscal bodies and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant statutory and financial obligations, including taxes.
  • Develop a systematic approach to keep relevant staff informed of updates and changes to Ukrainian legislation.
  • Review and revise the roles and responsibilities of the country and area office accounting teams to ensure effective accounting and compliance support.
  • Provide technical support to the decentralization process by ensuring the area and base office accountants have the tools and knowledge to perform tasks independently.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops on accounting compliance and minimum requirements
  • Monthly accounting briefings to relevant Manager.
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative, and enabling work environment
  • Any other tasks assigned by the line manager

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be a team player for our finance team. We are looking for active and attentive to details colleague. You will need to work with a big volume of information and to have experience in Excel to sort and analyze them. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Master's degree in Finance/Accounting or Audit
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in accounting management
  • Previous experience as an Accountant for an NGO is preferable
  • Advanced proficiency in Ms Office and BAF
  • Advanced professional proficiency in English

  • Contract length: Open-ended contract following the successful completion of an initial 3-month probation period
