Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located within the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) with duty station in Kunduz. The Field Security Assistant reports to the Area Security Adviser (ASA) through the Deputy Area Security Adviser (DASA) at the Security Area Northeast on all issues related to security operations at the security field office in Kunduz.

Responsibilities

The Field Security Assistant reports to the Area Security Adviser through the Deputy Area Security Adviser at the Security Area Northeast on all issues related to security operations in Kunduz. S/he will assist with data consolidation and dissemination of relevant security information; Assist with the preparation of any security-related documents; Provide support during the implementation of the Security Plan; assist with the preparation of the Training courses, related presentations, and documents.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• Provide general administrative support services to assist the Area Security Adviser through the Deputy Area Security Adviser at the Northeast Security Area to fulfill their duties and responsibilities in the management of the Kunduz security office. • Assists the Area Security Adviser through the Deputy Area Security Adviser at the Security Area Northeast in managing all applicable access control measures at the Kunduz security office. • Responsible for the supervision of the Security Operations Centre (SOC) and Premises Security activities at the Kunduz security office. • Supports the Area Security Adviser through the Deputy Area Security Adviser at the Security Area Northeast with the preparation of any Guard Force-related documents, reports, and activities as well as providing administrative assistance. • Drafts correspondence and maintains records for the Guard Force Security and Premises Security Training Courses. • Assists in reviewing the logistics requirements and other related actions required for the preparation of Guard Force and Premises Security Training, drills, and other security exercises. • Monitors and facilitates the implementation of Guard Force and Premises Security policies and procedures at the Kunduz security office. • Provides support in organizing and conducting security awareness and preparedness activities, and provides security orientation to newly assigned staff members, as well as conducting security briefings, as required. • Conducts access control procedures, and patrols, and ensures the security of the Mission premises and issues building entry passes as appropriate. • Alerts for any potential or actual breaches of security and any disturbances or unusual activities and reports this immediately. • Conducts radio checks with all security guards on duty. • Any other duty as required by the Area Security Adviser or the Deputy Area Security Adviser at the Security Area Northeast

High school diploma or equivalent is required. As per the special measure, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in safety and security functions is required. The minimum years of experience is reduced to one (1) year for candidates with a relevant first-level university degree or equivalent in military, police, administration, or any related area.

Work Experience

As per the special measure, with high school diploma or upper secondary education, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience, and with a first-level university degree (bachelor) or higher, one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in safety and security functions is required.

Good knowledge of Kunduz city, local roads, and conditions of the Security Area is desirable.

Knowledge of security rules, regulations, and procedures of UN including fire safety and first aid procedures, as well as standard security and safety procedures is desirable.

Prior experience of serving in the Military, Police and any other security organization is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge in oral and written Pashto or Dari languages is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
