Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

UNDP, in collaboration with national counterparts, is advancing the deployment of solar energy solutions across Palestine, with a particular focus on East Jerusalem. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster sustainable energy practices and enhance the economic resilience of local communities. Building on the success of 17 completed sub-projects, the current project aims to assist 20 key institutions in East Jerusalem by installing Photovoltaic Systems (PVs) to generate clean, renewable energy. The goal is to help these institutions reduce their dependency on traditional power sources and promote sustainability.

The project will facilitate the connection of PV systems to the local electricity grid, in close cooperation with the local electricity company. It will also involve the development of agreements for the sale of excess electricity generated, creating a potential income stream for the targeted institutions. Additionally, business plans will be developed to ensure the optimal utilization of financial resources and the sustainability of energy production. To support long-term success, training and capacity-building programs will be provided to ensure that the institutions can effectively manage and operate the solar energy systems.

Beyond the technical aspects, the project aims to increase community awareness about the benefits of clean energy. UNDP will document the successes of these initiatives, share knowledge with stakeholders, and engage local communities to embrace sustainable energy practices. This effort will contribute not only to income diversification for the institutions but also to strengthening the environmental and economic resilience dividends at the community at large.

The National UN Youth Volunteer, under the direct supervision of the UNDP Project manager, will be responsible for supporting various activities aimed at carrying out follow up with the targeted institutions during and post the implementation with focus on counterpart engagement, awareness, mobilization, operation and management of the systems.

  1. Institutional Support and Counterpart Engagement:

• Follow up regularly with the 20 targeted institutions to ensure the effective implementation and operational efficiency of the installed Photovoltaic Systems (PVs), addressing any issues or concerns promptly. • Act as a liaison between the institutions, the local electricity company, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination and resolve any technical or operational challenges. • Support the implementation of agreements signed with counterparts, ensuring that terms are adhered to and agreements regarding the sale of generated electricity and system operations are effectively followed through. • Assist in organizing meetings and discussions with counterparts to maintain strong engagement, resolve issues, and ensure continued collaboration. • Provide ongoing support for training and capacity-building activities, ensuring that the institutions have the necessary skills to manage and maintain the solar energy systems.

  1. Awareness, Community Mobilization, and Reporting:

• Assist in the development and implementation of community awareness initiatives to promote the benefits of clean energy, engaging local communities through workshops, events, and educational campaigns. • Track and report on the performance of the PV systems, including energy generation, savings, and any income generated through electricity sales, providing regular updates to the Project Manager. • Document and share success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to amplify the impact of the project and promote sustainability. • Monitor the progress of agreements with counterparts, ensuring that all milestones and targets are met and reported on in a timely manner.

• Demonstrated ability to collect, consolidate, and analyze education-related data to support planning and decision-making. • Proactive and goal-oriented mindset with a commitment to inclusive and learner-centered approaches. • Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders. • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks in an educational setting. • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and adaptability across diverse community, gender, and age contexts. • Receptive to feedback and able to integrate diverse perspectives constructively. • Brings energy, a positive attitude, and a collaborative spirit to team efforts. • Exhibits flexibility and creativity in addressing educational challenges and supporting student well-being. • Strong planning and coordination abilities, particularly in delivering awareness, and community mobilization. • Committed to accountability, professionalism, and equity in all responsibilities.
