Background

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. The FAO Coordination Office for the West Bank and Gaza Strip Programme implements the Country Programming Framework for Palestine to enhance the wellbeing of Palestinian people by making the agrifood system more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable in alignment with national policies and strategies and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSCDF).

Under the overall supervision of FAO WBGS Head of Office, and the direct supervision of the Reporting and Communications Assistant, the Communications and Graphic Designer will work in close collaboration with OCC branches and focal points. The Communications and Graphic Designer will have the opportunity to curate content from programme colleagues and create digital content. He/She will design and update high quality, innovative and compelling marketing and pitch material in support of FAO’s communications, advocacy and resource mobilization efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in the development and design of public information/visibility products for the FAO WBGS programme (E.g., signage at project sites, inaugural/milestone events, brochures, factsheets, infographics, posters, photos videos etc.) to enhance the quality and outreach of messaging to external stakeholders, including donors, humanitarian agencies, and the public;

• Assists in providing photographic and video coverage, as directed by FAO WBGS, of assigned project sites, events, meetings, or other photo/video reportage, for sharing with the project participants, public, donors, other UN agencies and the media.

• Supports the preparation of ppt presentations, editing graphic design, videography and photography for outreach purposes.

• Designs and publish comprehensive standardized briefs and cutting-edge donor/partners packages and reports showcasing FAO’s work and achievements in Palestine.

• Supports the development of materials for meetings, missions, and any other relevant reports.

• Support the dissemination of publication materials on the RNE and FAO websites, as well as various social media platforms, including the Resident Coordinator's Office and FAO corporate accounts on Twitter®, Facebook®, and other relevant channels.

• Liaison with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained through the Reporting and Communications Assistant/Specialist to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.

• Assists in collecting qualitative and quantitative inputs for reports from other units;

• Assists in the preparation of progress/terminal reports, publications and communication materials, while ensuring quality and alignment with the organization’s editorial policy.

• Assists in revising other reporting requests and programme/operation documents such as project documents, assessment reports, etc.;

• Perform any other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Diploma in Digital Media, Communication or Graphic Design. University degree is desirable.

Experience:

At least three years of relevant experience in communication materials and reports.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in both spoken and written English and Arabic languages.

NOTE: 'Fluency' equals a rating of 'proficient' in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand).

Other:

• Demonstratable knowledge of communication and graphic design, showing creative solutions and attention to detail.

• Ability to work interdependently, as part of a large, dynamic, and diverse team, and to establish effective working relationships with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.

• Proficiency in using relevant programmes such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After effect, Premiere pro and Lightroom, MS Office and other publishing software on Mac and Windows hardware.

• Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
