This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Under the supervision of Field Administration Officer, through the international Administrative Assistant to the Field Administration Office, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks outlined in the task description.

As Accommodation Management Unit focal; • Maintain and update the on-line database for all accommodation bookings in Bentiu, including Leer and Pariang. • Officially do the check-in and check-out documentation of all transit staff and maintain an effective record system. • Coordinate and manage transit accommodation units. • Coordinate and cooperate with IUP in management of IUP allocated accommodation. • Support FAO in coordination and support of National Staff temporary accommodation. • Ensure that FSS is fully updated, and accommodation payment schedules confirmed, completed and submitted as part of mission accommodation accountability. • Compile and submit weekly, bi-weekly and monthly accommodation reports. Coordinate and receive • accommodation payments of staff outside of the UNMISS financial framework and ensure an effective record system. As Facilities Management Unit focal: • Monitor Facilitate related Ineed requests to Engineering on behalf of clients. • Support initiation of Ineed requests for new arrivals for Engineering works. • Follow up on corrections of defects to all provided facilities, accommodation units, Offices, and welfare facilities with Engineering. • Ensure that preventative maintenance is scheduled with Engineering and that schedules fufilled. • Record and update inventories of facilities, accommodations units, welfare and office premises. • Support client requests for accommodation and office furnishing where stocks allow. • Maintain and update minimum stock levels for FMU. • Continued interaction of MHQ AMU for stock level demands. Additional Tasks: • Act as focal point for all mail and pouch services. • Coordinate conference facilities and books and fully support conference services. • Effectively coordinate the functions of three national team assistants assigned to FMU. • Take part in the Mission environmental plans ("Going Green" initiative, water and waste management, solid and liquid waste disposal, etc.). • Any other task as assigned by the FAO.

Facility, camp and compound maintenance and management Mandatory. Minimum years of experience required can be shortened to 3 years for relevant Master's degree holders.

Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable

Demonstrated high level of computer proficiency, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software is Mandatory.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Experience with the implementation of a Flexible Workspace Management is desirable.

Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development and the UN System.

Living conditions vary between UNMISS duty stations. Each duty station where UNMISS has a field presence has basic residential camp facilities, which includes running water and electricity. Candidates should be aware that accommodation may be austere with the possibility of water shortages and power blackouts. On arrival in Juba accommodation will be on a share basis. Ablutions will also be shared. As the accommodation situation improves single unit accommodation, with an attached ablution, should become available in all locations. Hard wall accommodation is available in Juba.

All UNMISS duty stations apart from Entebbe, Uganda are considered non - family duty stations. The security level of UNMISS duty stations is classified by the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) who will brief on arrival. A number of locations in South Sudan are prone to conflict.

Primary health care services (preventive and curative) are provided in 11 United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE) Level-I clinics, 21 Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Level-I clinics, 4 COE Level-II medical facilities within the mission area and the establishment of contractual agreements for Level-III and Level-IIII care outside the mission area. The 4 Level-II facilities available in Juba, Bor, Malakal and Wau, run by the Troop Contributing Countries (TCC), take referrals from the Level-I clinics and provide hospital-based care.

The climate is tropical with a rainy season in many areas, which should normally span from around April to October. Ability to live and work in difficult and harsh conditions is essential.
