Result of Service The consultant will screen, assess, and recommend a high-profile individual to promote the “Plastic is Forever” campaign and promote BRS Secretariat as the de facto United Nations entity fostering the environmentally sound management and minimization of plastic waste through the implementation of legally binding agreements and other actions.

Expected duration - Twenty workdays from 15 December 2021 to 28 February 2022. - Four workdays from 1 to 30 June 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Secretariat) brings together the three leading multilateral environmental agreements that share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes.

A consultant is required to assist the BRS Secretariat in identifying and retaining a high-profile individual, who will participate in the “Plastic is Forever” campaign to raise awareness of actions undertaken by the Secretariat to address plastic waste under the Basel Convention.

Under the overall supervision of the Public Information Officer, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

(i) Developing a report that screens, assesses and recommends a high-profile individual to participate in the “Plastic is Forever” campaign; (ii) Providing confirmation of identification and selection of the high-profile individual in writing; (iii) Assisting PAO with the development of a “Plastic is Forever” video and a set of still images featuring the selected high-profile individual; (iv) Supporting PAO with further promotional activities to disseminate communication products featuring the selected high-profile figure in the “Plastic is Forever” campaign through traditional and social media.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, business, law or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: - At least seven years of experience in talent sourcing and celebrity outreach for social impact campaigns at an international level is required; - At least seven years of experience in public relations and communications is required; - At least five years of experience in cause marketing is required; - At least five years of experience in social media marketing is required; - Experience in event support and fundraising is desirable; - Experience providing advice to and producing media content for senior leadership in an international organization is desirable; - Experience in implementing global media campaigns is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
