DRC together with DDG, as a single entity – DRC/DDG, opened its operations in Libya in 2011 to respond to the humanitarian needs in the country. Currently DRC/DDG implements activities with a head office in Benghazi in the following Areas of Operations, namely: West of Libya – Tripoli office and East of Libya – Benghazi office.
Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified EOD Team Lead to conduct EOD operations in Benghazi.
About the job
The EOD Team Lead will be responsible for the EOD Team, he/she conducts EOD operations in accordance with the DDG Standard Operating Procedures as well as national and international standards and guidelines. In doing so, the EOD Team Lead observes all safety standards applicable. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Conduct and supervise EOD tasks assigned to your team by Operations Manager (OM) or Technical Field Manager (TFM).
- Conduct and supervise EOD spot tasks in compliance to DDG EOD SOP
- Conduct and Supervise transportation of dangerous items in compliance with DDG Transportation and Storage of Ammunition within the EOD SOP as well as national and international regulations.
- Conduct and supervise any other tasks which you have been trained to carry out.
- Conform to IMAS, LibMAS and all applicable SOP’s.
- The ongoing acquisition and reporting of information about your current site and other priority tasks within your area of operations to the TFM/OM to enable accurate reporting and planning of future activities.
- Ensure the security of all equipment assigned to your team.
- Ensure and supervise the checking of the equipment for serviceability assigned to your team, and report of any defects as soon as reasonably possible to TFM/OM or support services team members.
- Supervise the inspection of all applicable equipment at regular intervals (at least daily).
- Report any faulty or broken equipment to the TFM/OM immediately for servicing or re-supply.
- Report any loss of equipment to the TFM/OM.
- Ensure high standards of discipline and conduct are adhered to, as an individual and of your team.
- Be respectful to the TFM’s, OM and to all other Staff.
- Report to the TFM/OM the status of work assignments assigned to your team at regular intervals.
- Report completion of work assignments to the TFM/OM, personnel and team attendance, disciplinary issues, logistical issues and security information to the TFM/OM.
- Conduct any other reasonable task as directed by TFM’s or OM.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to be Level 3 EOD and a recognized first aid course. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Internationally Recognized EOD L3 qualification.
- A proven and checkable history of HMA activities
- A proven track record of a minimum 5 years Mine Action experience.
- An understanding of INGO terminology and processes.
- Mentally and physically fit
NOTE: Employees must be fit to physically carry, handle, and operate the following equipment in varying working positions:
- Metal detector / Magnetometer
- Marking equipment
- Excavation tools
- Explosives and demolition accessories
- Experience in working with Demining NGO or other demining companies in Libya
- Knowledge of Mines and UXO encountered in Libya
- Valid travel documents and availability to travel outside of Libya
- Full driving license.
Desirable
• A proven track record of a minimum 5 - year Mine Action experience.
• An understanding of INGO terminology and processes.
• Ability to speak other international languages
• Other relevant qualifications or training courses.
