You have:
- MA/MSc in Economics with specialization in Environmental and Resource Economics or equivalent.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in the field of Economics is required.
- Experience working with quantitative information/data.
- Experience working on Data Mining on Natural Capital, Beyond GDP, Measurement and Quantification of Planetary crisis and human well-being is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in French is an advantage.
Result of Service 1. Production and Design of Quarterly Focus Series on Measurement of Planetary Health and Human Well Being 2. Inclusive Wealth Report (IWR) of Africa publication which will serve as key document to support institutions and conventions aligned with the objective of ‘building back better’ post-pandemic. This will involve a transition to a green economy as the norm, and such a transition cannot occur without ample measurement and long-term monitoring of natural capital; 3. Strong South-South cooperation components based on exchanging of lessons learned and best practices in the development and implementation of the IWI in each country and within the region. 4. Helping organization of a side event in High Level Forums

Expected duration The assignment is from September 2022 to July 2023. The payments will be made in two(2) instalments.
Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Agencies such as the World Bank, UNEP, OECD, and UN Statistical Division remain actively engaged in wealth accounting projects. While such projects may differ in their semantic label or main focus, the institutions overseeing them aim to meet constant international demands for data and information related to wealth accounting and developmental measurement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Director of the New York Office and the direct supervision of the Chief Environmental Economist, the consultant will undertake the following responsibilities:
a. Provide a platform to increase engagement and build consensus around methodological development in wealth metrics by scientists, economists, and practitioners. b. Promote exchange of information and data for better implementation and adoption of inclusive/comprehensive wealth measurement and policy at country level. c. Outreach on the progress within UN on GDP Plus / Beyond GDP d. Produce publication of Quarterly Focus Series on “Measuring Planetary Health and Human Well Being” e. Organize side events during HLPF, COPs and Ministerial Summits (AMCEN for example)
Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: MA / Msc in Economics with specialisation in Environmental and Resource Economics or Equivalent with a combination of relevant experience. Experience: - A minimum of 8 years' experience in the field of Economics is required. - Experience with working with quantitative information/data is an advantage; - Experience working on Data Mining on Natural Capital, Beyond GDP, Measurement and Quantification of Planetary crisis and human well-being is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy position fluency in English is required.
