Overview

Serve as the Mission’s focal point for environmental and climate issues and advise leadership.

You have:

  • Completion of at least 3 years of university studies (Bachelor’s level or equivalent to EQF level 6) in environmental health, environmental science, natural resource management, sustainability or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to conduct environmental assessments and analyses; provide advice on sustainable and climate-smart solutions; deliver training; and apply the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement.
  • English language proficiency at minimum B2 level.
  • Knowledge of climate footprint analysis, green engineering, environmental management systems and climate mitigation/adaptation.
  • International experience, especially in crisis contexts with multinational or international organizations.
  • Knowledge of Russian and/or Armenian.

We are looking to recruit an Environmental Adviser for the European Union Mission to Armenia. The Environmental Adviser will be the mission’s lead expert on climate and environmental issues, guiding the integration of sustainability into all mission activities. The role supports EU climate policy implementation, strengthens the mission’s environmental performance, and provides analysis, training, and advice on the climate–security nexus. The adviser also engages with local and international partners to promote climate‑smart and sustainable approaches across the mission.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of at least 3 years of university studies (Bachelor’s level or equivalent to EQF level 6) in environmental health, environmental science, natural resource management, sustainability or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

Main tasks:

  • To serve as the Mission’s focal point for environmental and climate issues and advise leadership on applying EU climate and environmental policies.
  • To integrate climate and environmental considerations across Mission operations and improve overall environmental performance through technical and managerial guidance.
  • To deliver training, raise awareness, and contribute to environmental and climate analyses, including security implications, Mission footprint and duty of care.
  • To develop mechanisms to monitor and implement EU and international climate frameworks, including the EU Green Deal and EU Climate Law.
  • To support strategic communications, SOP development, and cooperation with local and international stakeholders promoting sustainability.
  • To ensure Mission staff remain informed on sustainability and climate‑smart approaches and maintain long‑term partnerships aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
