Overview

Edit and proofread the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework document.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's) in Literature, English Language, Social Sciences, Arts, or related field required.
  • A first level university degree in similar fields with two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in editing, proof-reading, report writing required.
  • Previous experience in editing UN publications is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency equals 'fluent' in all four areas (speak, read, write, understand).
  • Knowledge of French or Arabic is an asset.

Result of Service The individual contract will be required to submit a final and agreed version of edited UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework document.

Duties and Responsibilities General Assembly resolution 72/279 elevates the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (now renamed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework) as “the most important instrument for planning and implementation of the UN development activities at country level in support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda).” Given the ambition of the 2030 Agenda and the urgency of its timeline, the resolution represents a significant shift. The Cooperation Framework now guides the entire programme cycle, driving planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of collective UN support for achieving the 2030 Agenda.

The cooperation framework further reflects and articulate the contemporary relationship between the Government of Jordan and the UN system collective support in collaborating to achieve the SDGs priorities and gaps. As the 2018-2022 development cooperation framework came to an end in December 2022, the UN system in Jordan led by the Resident Coordinator Office, has developed the new 2023-2027 UNSDCF that sets out the specific areas for UN support to the Government of Jordan.

Within the framework of the 5-year cycle of the UNSDCF, the UN in collaboration with the Government of Jordan and other key stakeholders has formulated a new UNSDCF 2023 - 2027. The new UNSDCF will focus on shaping the overall direction and strategic choices for Jordan-UN programme of cooperation. A final UNSDCF report has been prepared and the UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan is seeking for the services for a professional English language editor.

Under the supervision of the Head of Office, the individual contractor will:

  • Edit the chapters and narrative sections with a view to ensuring clarity and continuity of the ideas, thought processes and policy focus of the report;
  • Ensure clarity of structure and core themes; internal consistency [ general readability and accessibility to a broad readership]
  • Carry out technical editing, copy-editing, and final proof reading of the final report.

    Qualifications/special skills An advanced university (Master's degree or equivalent) in Literature, English Language, Social Sciences, Arts or related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in editing, proof-reading, report writing is required. Previous experience in editing UN publications is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
