Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.

Job Overview/Summary: The EMR Translation Assistant is to assist the referral of patients from refugee camps to Maesot (MST) Hospital and back by direct supervision and technical support of Senior Medical Referral Officer.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Take care of patients when arriving at Maesot Hospital: - Manage referrals according to IRC policy - Follow up of patients from arrival to Maesot hospital and their departure to Temporary Shelter Area - Register all patients upon arrival at Thai hospital as OPD patient as well as Emergency cases - Entering patient information in computer - Daily prepare the New Patient Registration form and sent to Thai hospital - Record Daily summary of IPD patient and sent to Senior Medical Referral Officer once a week - Daily patient planning by using “Patient List Form” and sent to Maesot hospital - Record of hospital information in Lema Book upon discharge - In case of suspect infectious disease take preventive measures - In case of victim of SGBV manage according to IRC protocol and follow up the documents such as medical certificate, IQ test and or Age verification - Check appointment card of patient and others document - Ensure that treatment prescribed from hospital is well informed to the patient - Provide food allowance to a companion of patient who admit at Thai hospital - Provide food for patients and patient’s companion for OPD patient - Prepare food allowance form for patient and companion and ask them to sign. Then sent back to Senior Medical Referral Officer - Monthly entering the medical expenses for each patient

2. Take care and follow up of patients at Thai hospital: - Make an appointment with necessary specialist for a consultation - Organize transport to and from hospital for patients and companion in coordination with the driver team - In case of hospitalization arrange administrative formalities upon admission and discharge - Assist patients during consultation, follow up and hospitalization - Visit daily hospitalized patients - Be aware of the patient diagnose and follow all tests that are being administered by Thai doctors in order to inform Senior Medical Referral Officer and avoid too many tests or too long hospitalization - In case of an unexpected medical development, inform on time Senior Medical Referral Officer. - Act as a translator for patients/IRC doctors/hospital staff in Karen, Burmese, Thai or English - Make sure patient follows the treatment prescribed while in Hospital

3. Additional responsibilities - Participate in monthly team meetings - Maintain effective communication with National and Camp Base Staffs. - Take night and weekend shifts according to planning done by Senior Medical Referral Officer - Respond to emergency situations, when necessary - Notify Senior Referral Officer in case of need of any material supply - Perform other related tasks and ad hoc activities assigned by supervisors and/or line manager.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Senior Medical Referral Officer Other Internal and/or external contacts: Internal: Health Team, Program staff, and Camp Base Staffs. External: Thai Hospitals.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Education: Nurse or other medical background is preferable.

Work Experience: At least 1 year of relevant work experience in a similar position and experience in an NGO is an asset.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Able to travel others hospital frequently to assess patient information. - Ability to work in low-resource settings. - Respect the humanitarian principle and organizational rules and regulation. - Strong coordination and communication skills. - Team Player.

Language Skills: Working knowledge of Thai, English, Karen and/or Burmese.

Certificates or Licenses: None

Working Environment: The position will be regular work at Maesot office and Thai Hospital, traveling to Chiang Mai or others hospital for patient referral.
