Supply and logistics operations remain central to the UNICEF humanitarian response. The core business and commitment of the Emergency Coordination Unit (ECU) are to assist countries improve humanitarian response, timely delivery and distribution of supplies and essential household items to affected populations, partners and/or point-of-use promptly. Through investing in preparedness with a focus on enabling effective and timely response, reducing costs, and reaching the most vulnerable.

More than 100 million people today are on the run from conflict and disaster, and 340 million are projected to need humanitarian assistance in 2023.

UNICEF ECU has been working tirelessly with regional offices and country offices to support 4 declared L3 emergencies in 33 countries and 6 declared L2 emergencies in 13 countries. The Unit is also responding promptly to sudden onset emergencies, priority countries and those on the watch list, as well as countries transitioning from declared emergencies to recovery and resilience phases.

Under the general direction and guidance of the Senior Emergency Manager and in close collaboration with members of the ECU Team, the Emergency Information Management Specialist will support the Emergency Coordination Unit with drafting briefing notes, compiling information, data and any other materials for donor presentations and other related reporting requirements to inform evidence-based and strategic decisions related to the below emergency core functions:

Preparedness a) Support the ECU in preparedness and contingency planning, monitoring, and reporting for countries with high and medium risk classification. b) Support the ECU team in setting up and maintaining a lessons learned mechanism based on the emergency deployment mission debriefs provided to feed an after-action review and action plan.

Response c) Develop/adapt templates for collecting information, support the ECU and its internal and external partners in producing consolidated information management products and reports in periodical manner. d) Support the ECU in organizing and participating in regular coordination meetings aimed at information sharing for appropriate coordination between all internal and external partners. a. Support action points formulation and tracking to completion. b. Regularly update and maintain contact lists of all partners and working groups in country and regional offices, other UN agencies and within UNICEF across divisions. e) Manage an inventory database that contains relevant documents and graphics on various emergency projects (strategies, needs assessments, surveys, reports, briefing notes… and other relevant information). f) Provide IM support for the preparation of briefing notes, situation analysis, field missions using GIS for geographic data management, and production, compile the data and create maps in a timely manner and as needed to assist the preparedness and response activities for ECU, regional and country offices, partners, and other stakeholders

Management g) Support and provide input for the preparation of situation reports, mid or end-year reviews with emphasis on ECU achievements by providing relevant and up to date information. h) Support the ECU in developing a framework for the monitoring and evaluation of the workplan activities and support the development of indicators that ECU needs to monitor its workplan.

Capacity i) Promote and provide training and capacity building activities to the ECU team and regional and country offices in emergencies for reporting, use of the IM outputs, etc.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNICEF team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNICEF and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: Results/Outputs can be modified as appropriate; should not entirely mirror the task description but serve as a basis for workplan and deliverables]. The incumbent will be a critical part of the SD ECU team which ensures timely, accurate and efficient emergency response. • Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated, and documented in all activities throughout the assignment. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in, and capacities developed.

national and international levels. • Minimum of two years of experience in the humanitarian sector and/or in emergency situations. • Good written and oral presentation skills. • Strong analytical, synthesis and conceptual thinking skills. • Experience in information management, data analysis and visualization tools and software (Adobe suite, Power BI, ARC-GIS, Web content management, Microsoft suite). • Experience working within a UN Agency, or a Cluster is an asset.

Language skills Fluency in spoken and written English is required; outstanding ability to transform multiple streams of information into concise and clear action driven written reports in English and visual aids is essential,
Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage but not a requirement.

The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging for his/her own housing, transport, and other living essentials.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty station in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service.
