OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of the CRP Department is to strategically support and oversee all communication and resource mobilization activities in the region (including regional and country offices), build strategic alliances and partnerships, and manage external relations. The Department manages WHO/EMRO's relationship with the international community by contributing to the positioning of the Organization's regional health priorities into the agenda of the international community andin positioning the Organization to attain technical and strategic recognition within the regional and global settings.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Update and contribute to talking points, briefing notes and other internal IMST/EOC documents related to COVID-19 and other health emergencies.2. Support the development of emergency communications content, including web stories, press releases, feature stories, and other communications materials related to COVID-19 and other major health emergencies in line with established WHO guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach.3. Work closely with other Communication Officers in the region, if any, and press/media in identifying information related to COVID-19 and other emergencies as required by IMST/EOC for dissemination. 4. Provide technical input in the development of other emergency communications materials as needed for all outbreaks and emergencies, including social media content, video scripts and infographics, fact sheets, situation reports, donor communications, and annual reports5. Work with relevant counterparts within the health cluster, regional and field offices, other WHO departments, UN agencies, and other partners to identify communication opportunities and prepare communication initiatives on specific topics.6. Work closely with media and social media teams to provide content and ensure visibility for WHO's work in emergencies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in communication, journalism, political science or international relations or related field. Desirable: Courses in communication techniques such as graphic design, visual language and the use of social media

Experience

Essential: At least two years' related experience working in communication and/or advocacy. Desirable: Proven track record in working with media to arrange coverage of events including international exposure working with INGO or WHO/UNKnowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals

Skills

• Ability to write well in English and produce engaging communication materials. • Proven skills in the development and implementation of communication/media products and tactics showcasing the organization's work and impact. • Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to conceptualize ideas and advocate consensus. • Excellent presentation skills. • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to achieve multiple deadlines. • Ability to "think out of the box" and make innovative proposals to extend reach. • Knowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals in the emergency incident management context. • Knowledge of public health sector and issues. • Demonstrated ability to work within an emergency context at the country level.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 49,254 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1437 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
