This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

In the preparation of the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections the project will provide technical assistance and advisory support to the electoral management bodies in the country. In addition, the project will work with civil society organizations and civic groups to enhance awareness and knowledge of citizens and voter at large on topics related to legal framework, women and youth rights and inclusive political participation. Within this context, the project is seeking to recruit an Elections Assistant to follow up on the implementation of common activities and joint initiatives with CSOs and other stakeholders and assist in providing logistical assistance to the organization of trainings across the country.

Relevance/purpose of the work required and how it is linked to the project context
One of the main components of the project aims at building trust and confidence in the Lebanese institutions and in the electoral processes through active and sustained engagement and a comprehensive program targeting citizens and voters at large with a particular focus on women, youth and persons with disabilities. In this context, the project works to establish joint programs with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders to positively engage different marginalized groups and advocate inclusive participation in electoral processes. The position is required in order to strengthen the cooperation and coordination with partners and CSOs and follow up and monitoring on the expected deliverables.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of LEAP Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Elections Assistant will:

• Assist and provide substantial support in the implementation of thematic activity areas, focused on capacity development, awareness raising, knowledge sharing, in a human rights based approach; • Coordinate and follow up with CSOs on activities related to elections, youth, women and PWDs participation in the political life and elections; • Contribute and provide assistance in the implementation of outreach, education and awareness programs and initiatives; • Follow-up on the progress of relevant activities and programs implemented in Beirut and other regions, including logistic and operational support; • Participate in the organization of project- related training programs; • During electoral period, contribute to relevant electoral assistance activities in support to the project stakeholders; • Provide regular briefings to project team, especially focusing on youth, women and PWDs engagement and participation; • Undertake any other reasonable and related tasks as per CTA instructions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Education or any related field; • At least 3 years of professional work experience, experience with elections is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • The self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in elections, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based at the project office located in Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
