Result of Service The incumbent of the post shall serve as educational activities coordinator and Arabic editor for the ESCWA Stories Team. The ESCWA Stories Team was established by the ESCWA Executive Secretary to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals in ESCWA Member States through the production and dissemination of a comic book including stories on the SDGs. The Team visits educational institutions, interacts with students and teachers, and organizes events for the promotion of the comic book and its objectives. Against this background, the ESCWA Stories Team is seeking the services of a local educational activities coordinator and Arabic editor to assist the schools in designing and implementing related educational activities and to edit the material produced by the Team, whenever needed.

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities - Assist the team in the timely production and dissemination of volume II of the ESCWA Stories comic book. - Liaise with schools in three target countries (Lebanon, Jordan and Kuwait) to plan and implement educational activities for students aged between 8 and 14, based on the ESCWA Stories comic book, throughout the academic year 2022-23. - Ensure that the comic book is used as an educational tool to help mainstream the SDGs in the target schools. - Participate in field visits to the schools to support and document the implementation of relevant activities. - Plan for events (inside schools or at the UN House) to showcase the students’ creative works related to ESCWA Stories and the SDGs (art works, interactive readings, creation of new characters, theatrical adaption, community service activities, etc..). - Assist in the preparation of short videos to document the schools’ activities throughout the academic year. - Maintain regular communication and follow-up with the teachers participating in the project. - Edit Arabic material produced by the ESCWA Stories Team for accuracy of language and grammar. - Review and/or edit video scripts in Arabic language in preparation for the design phase. - Make sure that gender sensitive language is used throughout all material produced under this project. - Assist the ESCWA Stories Team in preparations for volume III of the comic book in Arabic. - Track and monitor the production flow of ESCWA Stories Vol. III to ensure that deadlines are met. - Perform other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor’s degree in Arabic language, education, or other related academic background is required. A Master's degree is desirable. A minimum of fifteen years of proven experience in working with educational institutions and/or international organizations are required. Other relevant experience related to the areas of work of the ESCWA Stories Team is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is required; English and French are desirable.
