CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Education Technical Lead, the Mental Health and Psychological Support (MHPSS) Specialist is responsible to support quality, gender-sensitive design, delivery and advocacy across education programming. The role holder will lead and be involved in strategic implementation and management of MHPSS activities in education projects.

The role is expected to establish strong linkages with national level MHPSS working groups and organizations, regional and global levels as well. The specialist is also responsible for building the technical capacity of education and other program teams and partners in MHPSS and keeping up to date with developments in the field.

External Representation: None KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Program strategy, integration, and quality • Provide technical advice and guidance to the education program teams to ensure that MHPSS plans and components are technically sound, contextualized and implemented in line with programs and country’s strategies • Coordinate closely with the EiE Cluster and, where required, represent the education programme in the MHPSS Technical Working Group to ensure a coherent and integrated approach across all education interventions. • Work closely with Education Project teams at CO and field levels to coordinate the MHPSS capacity building plan, ensuring timely delivery of essential knowledge and skills to Village Education Committees and teachers to support children’s learning and well‑being. • Leverage and liaise with technical assistance from local, regional, international partners and Save the Children members • Develop key guidance and tools for MHPSS in providing quality and contextualized MHPSS services and information dissemination • Provide technical support in appropriate, timely and accurate gender sensitive qualitative and quantitative data collection for high quality reports for internal and external audiences and donors. • Include inputs in producing case studies, success stories and program learning across program teams and organization. Provide inputs to concept notes and proposals on MHPSS activities and initiatives • In collaboration with MEAL team, set up a MEAL system to monitor and evaluate MHPSS activities.. • Support in strategic planning and delivery of MHPSS activities including life-saving learning for children in Myanmar • Technically guide in the development of contextualized deliverables for MHPSS works and sustain the resources in line with changing environments and needs • Support in guiding the needs of areas for MHPSS projects, activities, and deliverables • Collaborate with the advocacy team on developing impact stories and provide support to campaign and advocacy initiatives as neededProvide MHPSS-related support to other departments as required, ensuring all engagement is coordinated through line manager.

Strengthen partnership and external communications/advocacy • Support the identification, assessment, selection, and development of technical capacity of implementing and strategic partners • Provide capacity development for CSO partners including training, coaching, and mentoring • Support program teams and partners to adhere to SCI MHPSS guidelines, Gender Equality and Inclusion Principles and other standards • Represent Save the Children at national MHPSS Working Group and technical working group meetings, and other relevant forums and liaise closely with relevant members as delegated by Technical Lead.

Capacity Strengthening and Development • Support technical capacity of Save the Children staff providing access to training and opportunities for learning • Coach and mentor staff and partners in MHPSS as required • Encourage staff to strengthen knowledge and understanding of gender sensitive and transformative approaches to MHPSS in humanitarian settings, tools and guidelines • Develop packages of tools, intervention approaches and capacity building plans to guide Save the Children staff and partners on how they can provide community mental health and psychosocial support services in accordance with the context

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Applied Psychology, Child Psychology or in relevant field. Professional qualifications and field experiences are desirable. • Minimum five years of work experience in MHPSS • Experience in conducting research, surveys and delivering situational and evidence-based reports • Knowledge of and experience with MHPSS working group is an advantage • Experience in ensuring innovative plans/approaches are gender sensitive and transformative • Previous working experience of MHPSS data analysis and management • Good understanding of the local context and culture • Quality of adaptability and flexibility • Excellent English and Myanmar communications skills, both written and verbal • Excellent personal organizational skills including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure • Willingness to travel to field offices as relevant and required • Able to self-manage time effectively and independently • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles. • Willingness and capability to company with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the Child Safeguarding Policy
