Generic responsibilities The Education Officer will oversee all facets of Education project implementation within the West Area Office, encompassing both soft and hard components of the Education program. The soft component entails managing activities such as teacher training through Better Learning Program (BLP) which is the NRC PSS flagship, Youth, non-formal education (catch-up education, remedial education, teachers’ capacity development etc.), and other programs, whether executed directly or in partnership with national organizations. On the other hand, the hard component involves overseeing activities such as the light and medium repair of schools, as well as managing support to the formal education system. 1. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance, and procedures. 2. Strict adherence to the NRC Code of Conduct 3. Implement the education project according to the plan of action 4. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and assess new and better ways to assist. 5. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders 6. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy. 7. Contribute to program development, adjustment, or review. 8. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities by team members and liaise with relevant colleagues for troubleshooting. Specific responsibilities These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly. 1. Implement education activities under direction of the Education Project Coordinator 2. Develop and maintain effective filing systems, both electronic and paper 3. Oversee education needs assessments at school level in NRC targeted areas. 4. Contribute to the development of weekly and monthly work plans in accordance with the program plans and logframes. 5. Support on the communication and relation with formal schools benefitting from rehabilitation, including close coordination with shelter team (school selection, tendering, monitoring visits during the repairing process, and documentation of each stage). 6. Provide support to NRC activities, including training sessions facilitation, school support, and youth activities, directly and through local partners in line with NRC quality standards 7. Independently organise psychosocial support activities supporting children and educational personnel, including oversight on multiple schools, sets of venues etc. 8. Ensure ongoing monitoring, tracking and reporting of education projects 9. Monitor spending and purchase requests as assigned by PM/PC and ensure proper follow up with logistics and field teams 10. Regularly travel to the field to oversee the activities in coordination with the PM/PC. 11. Maintain positive work relations with teachers, headmasters, and DoE representatives 12. Any other task relevant to the position as requested by line manager

Competencies 1. Professional competencies These are skills, knowledge, and experience that are important for effective performance. Generic professional competencies for this position: • Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts; ability to remain calm and professional in tense situations • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience within the field of expertise (Education, social services including psychosocial support/psychology or other relevant fields) • Documented technical competencies related to the position’s responsibilities. • Technical-specific knowledge of the humanitarian sector is an asset. Context-related skills, knowledge, and experience: • Experience in Psychosocial Support programming in education • Experience in conducting training for adults (Teacher training/ Training of trainers is an asset) or similar experience • Knowledge of the basics of child protection and/or psychosocial support • Experience working with youth through recreation and/or vocational training • Knowledge of the education system in Ukraine • Working knowledge of English both written and verbal • Fluent in Ukrainian. Knowledge of the Russian language is an asset.
