You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management or coordination, preferably in the education sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenya’s education system and policies, especially at the primary education level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government (Ministry of Education), NGOs, and community groups.
  • Sound knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian Protection programming principles.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
  • Strong attention to detail in project planning, monitoring, and reporting.

The Project Officer will be responsible for the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of key activities within the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning Program (KPEELP) funded by World Bank. The officer will work closely with schools, local education authorities, community stakeholders, and other partners to ensure that project objectives are met. The role requires strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of education challenges in refugee contexts, and a commitment to promoting equity in education. The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of NRC’s education project.

Qualifications

Professional competencies • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.

A master’s degree is an added advantage. • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management or coordination, preferably in the education sector. • Demonstrated experience working on education projects, particularly those focused on equity, inclusion, and marginalized groups. • Strong knowledge of Kenya’s education system and policies, especially at the primary education level. • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government (Ministry of Education), NGOs, and community groups. • Proven practical experience in the planning and execution of education projects for at least 3 years mostly in humanitarian assistance. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili including the ability to explain and present technical information. • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Sound knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian Protection programming principles. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites. • Willingness to always adhere to NRC code of conduct in and outside work.

Responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

•Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines. •Implement delegated Education project portfolio according to plan of action. •Prepare and develop status reports as required by management. •Ensure proper filing of documents. •Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and assess new and better ways to assist. •Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.

Specific responsibilities

Project Implementation •Support the day-to-day and timely implementation of program activities in line with the approved work plan. •Coordinate with the Ministry of Education (MoE), partners’ education officers, schools and community stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery. •Facilitate the effective implementation of strategies and initiatives outlined in School Improvement Plans (SIP) aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and overall school performance. •Collaborate with the project consultant to integrate and align activities with the broader objectives of the project. • Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. • Ensure timely delivery of educational resources and materials to target schools by ensuring effective pre-positioning, distribution and monitoring of learning materials. • Assist in the development of operational activity plans, budget proposals and project narrative reports. • Raise purchase requests and procurement plans ensuring alignment with the project's budget and procurement policies. • Support the design and delivery of capacity-building activities for school leadership and teachers. • Strengthen the capacity of MoE officials, partners and community leaders to sustain program outcomes beyond the project period.

Collaboration and Coordination • Coordinate training activities with partners (LWF, FCA, HI, Equity Bank Group, Jomo Kenyatta Foundation) with the aim to enhance teachers’ capacity to conduct remedial activities to improve learning outcomes. • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners in areas of operation, including MoE officials, partners and community leaders. • Represent the programme at Country and local level meetings, ensuring alignment with national education policies and priorities. • Facilitate community engagement to promote retention of marginalized children, especially girls and learners with disabilities.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities while providing technical support to schools and partners. • Prepare detailed and accurate activity reports, field visit summaries, and Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) documentation. • Ensure that all project documentation is well-maintained, organized, and accessible. • Contribute to learning and knowledge-sharing initiatives by documenting best practices and lessons learned. • Assist in the preparation of timely and quality periodic progress reports as required for funders and stakeholders.
