Job Description

Job Overview: Implemented by the IRC, the Cultural Orientation Resource Exchange (CORE) is a technical assistance program that connects and supports refugee resettlement staff globally to deliver effective Cultural Orientation (CO) which helps refugees achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. As part of this work, CORE hosts and manages the CORE website and a learning platform. CORE is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

The Education Officer will report to CORE’s Deputy Director and work in coordination with other CORE staff to advance CORE’s programmatic objectives. This position will oversee the implementation of CORE’s capacity building activities for both Reception and Placement and Afghan and Placement Assistance programming, with specific focus on delivering webinars and developing resources and tools for CO providers. As a part of this work, the Education Officer will also establish and maintain CORE’s direct technical assistance requests initiative.

Major Responsibilities:

- Oversee tracking and implementation of direct technical assistance project related to responding to R&P and APA program requests that support CO delivery at Resettlement Agencies, community-based organizations and other CORE stakeholders; - Build capacity of CO providers to deliver effective CO that aligns with R&P and APA programming requirements, including delivery of webinars and in-person trainings as possible; - Collaborate with Senior Community Orientation Officer in the implementation of CORE’s community and co-sponsor TA strategy; - Create new and modify existing training resources for CO providers to align with R&P and APA programming requirements; - Research, develop and facilitate online trainings to highlight effective practices in CO for both R&P and APA programming; - In coordination with CORE’s Research and Learning Officer, analyze data and provide other evidence-based project evaluation for inclusion in program reports, as needed; - Represent CORE at meetings, internal and external workshops and conferences, and other events as needed; - Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- Undergraduate degree required; - Minimum of 4 years work experience in refugee resettlement programs and Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Holders and refugees preferred; - Strong writing skills including the ability to develop coherent, engaging, grammatically correct written documents and training resources for a wide variety of audiences; - Demonstrated command of PowerPoint, Zoom, and utilizing them for effective and engaging online training purposes; - Digital proficiency in communication platforms, including Box and Microsoft Teams; - Experience developing and delivering training; - Excellent oral communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners, facilitate webinars and workshops, and present at professional meetings; - Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and Cultural Orientation programs; - Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; - Strong commitment to social service or humanitarian assistance programs and willingness to adhere to IRC’s code of conduct; and - Willingness and ability to travel as needed - Detail orientated and self-directed.

Working Environment: Standard office work environment. Open to remote work options. The CORE team is currently based in Silver Spring, Maryland.
