Job Overview:

The purpose of the Education Coordinator position is to implement delegated Education project portfolio, The Education Coordinator will help implement and monitor NRC’s Education Projects in western Region, focusing on Herat and Badghis provinces. The aim of NRC’s Education program is to enable vulnerably, displaced, returnee, and host community children and youth to have access to quality education in a protective environment.

Accelerated Education Programme (AEP), Education in Emergency (EiE), and Education First Phase Response (EFPR) are the main components of Education Projects in target provinces of the west Region. And providing opportunities to enrolee out of school’s children to the AEP classes to supporting governmental Hub Schools and strengthen their capacity to host the IDP, Returnee and host community out of school children to continue their education in the upper level.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance, and procedures
  • Line management of Education project field staff
  • Contribute to Education strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
  • Manage and implement, delegated portfolio of Education projects (activities, budget, and project documentation) as delegated from APM in line with proposals, strategies, and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
  • Provide regular progress reports to Education CC Specialist, APM, and AM.
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

Specific responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on the design, planning, implementation, and M&E of the Education Program in the assigned area/province.
  • Capacity building of Education staff for the technical implementation of ALP classes, EiE ( SIPs, Expansion, ToT) or other Education program related components;
  • Ensuring accountable database for Education project according to all the components of the project is take in place.
  • Implementing of education Components in Western target provinces.
  • Coordinate with HR/Finance on the recruitments, contracts, payments of ALP teachers, and other community-based education staff.
  • Coordinate with logistics for the development and update of Procurement Plan and BoQs
  • Lead the Education Officers, Technical Assistants on Mobilization and engaging the community in activities, establishing CBE School Shuras and in facilitating the community understanding of the overall project in west.
  • Monitor ALP classes and EiE activities and provide needed and technical advisory for better implementation.
  • Take the lead on assessments, design, implementation, and monitoring of SIPs and Expansions.
  • Coordination with Governmental and non-governmental stakeholders on the implementation of Education projects in the west.
  • Any other task as assigned by line manager/ Head of Office or Education CC Specialist

Qualification:

  • At least three years’(3) progressive experience in Education Coordinator level with a reputable non-profit organization
  • 3-4 years’ relevant experience in implementation of education or similar projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience of working in Education Emergency is an advantage;
  • Knowledge in protection mainstreaming, community outreach/engagement, community capacity building, and/or community-development oriented programming;
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English and Dari is essential, both written and verbal as well as an understanding of Pashtu is an advantage
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office, including strong skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of the context in Wes of Afghanistan, Herat and Badghis Provinces in particular
  • Experience in capacity building and training of staff
  • Experience in needs assessment, project monitoring and evaluation, and programme development;
  • Experience in logistics and administrative management
  • Experience of coordination and advocacy work
  • Experience of geographical access negotiation and representation, including with local authorities, I/NGOs, and communities.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills (qualitative and quanitative)
  • Advanced computer skills

Education:

  • University degree in Education/Management/Development. Master is an asset
