Duties and Responsibilities Background

From the 18th-20th May 2022, UN Country Team (UNCT) for Mauritius and Seychelles held their first in-person retreat. The overall objective of the retreat was to bring together UN family members and UN partners to strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities for a new collaboration. This was a chance for shared learning and for enhancing UNCT’s collective engagement to support both nations beyond recovery towards sustainable development. The UN Country Team Retreat Report showcases the planning, discussions, and next steps identified during the UNCT Retreat by the Resident Coordinator and UNCT members to contribute to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its primary audience rests at the country level and will be shared with and presented to the national Governments, UNCT members, and other development stakeholders at the country level. It will also be shared widely with the public as a communication material for advocacy to showcase the value of the UN reform. The 2022 UNCT retreat is unique in that it allowed the UNCT to engage with the Government of Seychelles at the highest level including the President of Seychelles His Excellency Wavel Ramkalawan and cabinet ministers plus other senior government leaders of various institutions.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) is seeking the services of Consultant to deliver editing /proofreading & graphic design services to enhance the quality, layout, and readability of an important communication document – United Nations Country Team Retreat 2022 Report for Mauritius and Seychelles in print and electronic versions. The consultant will report to the RCO team leader and will work closely with the UNRCO Communication Officer. Under the overall guidance of RC. The consultant is responsible for ensuring the product is in full compliance with UNDCO branding and style guide.

Specific duties : - Edit, proofread, design, layout and format the report for print and website - taking into account UNDCO branding guidelines, and branding requirements of other donors/partners, as needed - Design and create associated social media visuals and cards to be used to support and promote the publication of the report including a brochure. - Ensure that the final output(s) for the communication product will be the final web-ready and print-ready version and collaborate in ensuring smooth printing processes.

For each agreed communication product assigned the contractor will: - Design and layout the assigned communication product - Submit the preliminary layouts for discussion with UNRCO - Revise the selected layout as discussed with UNRCO - Submit a draft to UNRCO for preview (up to 3 rounds of corrections to be covered for each output under the agreement) - Ensure all corrections have been inserted - Make final corrections to the electronic file - Obtain a final sign off from UNRCO before submitting electronic files to the printer. - Prepare the electronic files for the printer. - Create PDF from final electronic file for UNRCO Web posting.

Experience: A Minimum of 10 years professional relevant experience in graphic design, in communications for development organisations, including experience in the preparation of publications, infographics, etc. Strong portfolio of work showcasing editing, proofreading and design skills, including typography, layout, color theory, etc. Experience in illustrations and other wide variety of products related to the field of work Experience in working with different types of design software. It is desirable that the candidate should hold a license for all the software being used and has access to functional hardware to deliver on the tasks to be allocated. Experience in sourcing photos Previous work experience with the UN System on communications is desirable. Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required .
