Result of Service The individual contractor will support UNCTAD efforts to increase available knowledge on current trends and perspectives for sustainable ocean economy, with a specific emphasis on the implications for developing countries, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and their challenges to meet the SDG 14 targets and other relevant SDG targets.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are in the process of completing the report “Trade and Environment Review 2023: Building a sustainable and resilient ocean economy beyond 2030” (TER). The report explores current trends and perspectives for sustainable ocean economy, with a specific emphasis on the implications for developing countries, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and their challenges to meet the SDG 14 targets and other relevant SDG targets. The TER will be published in early 2023.

Under the supervision of the Project Officer(s), UNCTAD is seeking to engage an individual contractor to edit and prepare the formatting/layout of the TER 2023. The document considers a total of about 25,000 words in size A4, including annexes and tables (reports + annexes).

The individual contractor should ensure the publications’ accuracy, consistency, and conformity with United Nations standards (both style and layout), policy and practice; correct spelling, grammar, and syntax errors, ensure quality and readability, correct and cross-check list of acronyms and revise country names. Additionally, track all changes, highlight any missing information, queries addressed to the authors and revise items that require confirmation due to lack of clarity/missing information. The language of the publications is English, and the final layout/formatting must be in InDesign. Graphs must be created from excel data and then styled in Illustrator/InDesign if necessary (to allow for potential modifications). Excel data and figures, if any, will be provided by UNCTAD.

Qualifications/special skills Bachelor's degree in journalism, editor, mass media, communication, or a related subject. At least 5 years work experience working in the field of editorial review, journalism, communications, and editorial review. Experience in editing documents considering UN guidelines is an advantage. Experience editing documents in the field of fisheries, trade and sustainable development is an advantage. Experience in formatting and design of documents is an advantage.

Languages Fluency in English is required.
