Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

Key to UNDPs work is partnering with countries and partners to address the climate crisis. Climate change has already driven an increase in morbidity and mortality and is projected to further alter the geographical range and numbers of injuries, illnesses, and deaths from climate-sensitive health risks, and to affect the functioning of public health and health care systems. An excess of 250 000 deaths annually due to climate change has been projected between 2030 and 2050, Rapidly increasing temperatures has led to 68% increase in heat-related deaths among vulnerable groups between 2000–04 and 2017–21. If no additional actions are taken, substantial increases in morbidity and mortality are projected for a wide range of health outcomes over the coming decades (WHO). Vulnerable populations and geographical regions will be affected differently, with increases in poverty and inequities linked to climate change and health impacts. Furthermore, health care sector contributes over 5% of net global climate emissions.

COP26 (2021) set a global ambition to build climate resilient and sustainable health systems and promote the integration of climate change and health into respective national, regional, and global plans with the leadership of WHO-led Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health. Financing the COP26 health commitments on climate resilient and sustainable low carbon health systems is recognized as a central challenge and an urgent priority in order to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on health and health systems. The UNDP’s HIV and Health Group has developed and executed various climate and health initiatives, including the Sustainable Health in Procurement Project, Smart Healthcare Systems, and the Management of Medical Waste. Currently, the Health Team is collaborating with The Nature, Climate, and Energy Team, along with the WHO, to implement global and regional initiatives supported by the Green Climate Fund, focusing on the intersection of climate and health.

Expected start date of the collaboration is 1st of August.

The health team has been conducting health sector carbon tracking in approximately 18 countries. This process utilized published data primarily reported by countries to global platforms, including the UNFCCC. We are now finalizing these country profiles, each averaging up to 2 pages. The next step involves editing and publishing these documents. Therefore, we need to collaborate with an online volunteer for language editing who will specifically address the following:

• Review and edit content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style. • Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and terminology across all documents. • Verify factual accuracy and clarity of content. • Conduct final checks on documents to catch any errors or inconsistencies. • Ensure all content is free from typographical errors and adheres to company standards.

• Language editing • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others). • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision. • Interest in climate related issues, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.
