IFC is seeking to recruit a Communications Consultant to promote IFC's work in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The position, based in Islamabad, Pakistan, requires a highly motivated, multi-skilled, lateral thinking person who is able to work well independently, as well as part of a team. IFC is looking for someone with communications/journalism experience, with a proven track record of producing high-quality communications materials and managing media relations and social media.

The position will report to the Regional Communications Lead for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Role and Responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to implement the communications strategy for IFC in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The successful candidate will have a solid background in communications, preferably with experience in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Specific work areas include the following:

Products: Conceptualizes and supervises the preparation, production and dissemination of communication products (e.g., news releases, presentations, briefing notes, online and social media content, speeches, etc.) and thought leadership pieces for the department. Writes and/or oversees preparation of high-profile speeches, talking points, op-eds, and presentations, as well as client-facing collateral and internal staff engagement content.

Digital media: Oversees the digital presence of IFC in relation to Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the respective web pages in ifc.org and the social media accounts. Also, advises the Country Manager on good social media practices and helps develop compelling content. Aims to amplify IFC’s reach on social media in a strategic way and expand its online footprint.

Networks: Initiates effective professional relationships with key external and/or internal constituencies (e.g., media, civil society, academia, businesses, government agencies, influencers, World Bank Group).

Events: Oversees the coordination of high-level flagship IFC events (2-3 per year), press briefings, and other communications-related activities involving external and/or internal audiences.

Risk management and political updates: Supports risk identification and mitigation activities in the context of operational interventions that may pose reputational issues; advises specific internal and external stakeholders; and provides political economy analysis for relevant countries.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, Public Affairs, Marketing, Business/Finance with 5 or more years of experience in communications and/or journalism with a proven track record of producing high-quality communications materials. • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English. • Proven ability to capture trends, case studies and innovations in communications products in a compelling, easy-to-understand manner. • Strong connections with leading media outlets, communications professionals, and opinion makers and influencers in Afghanistan and Pakistan. • Excellent working knowledge of social media platforms and processes – particularly LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook– with experience in creating and sharing social media content. • Strong knowledge of social, political, economic and business development issues in Afghanistan/Pakistan • Good understanding of the private sector, multilateral development institutions and current development topics and issues • Self-motivated, creative, excellent organizational skills, proven ability to perform multiple tasks under tight deadlines. • Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to work in an international, multicultural team environment.
