The Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment (MTI) Global Practice

The MTI Global Practice leads the World Bank Group’s dialogue and engagement with clients in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, trade, competition and investment. In our day-to-day engagement with countries, MTI supports authorities in their pursuit of reform agendas conducive to strengthening inclusive growth. MTI responds to client countries’ development needs with systematic country diagnostics, country strategies, policy lending, and country private sector diagnostics and other country-level and global analytical products that support World Bank Group and IFC engagements.

Duties and Accountabilities of ETC:

The World Bank Office in Croatia is seeking a highly organized, energized and experienced professional, capable of operating effectively in a very demanding and fast-paced environment to serve as a consultant in the MTI Global Practice on an Extended-Term Consultancy contract spanning one year (with possibility of extension for another year). The Consultant will work in the MTI Global Practice team for Croatia to provide substantive research, analytical and statistical assistance in support of the work program. In particular, the Consultant will:

• Participate in country-specific macroeconomic monitoring activities and provide inputs as needed to corporate briefs and for due diligence on macro-fiscal issues,

• Maintain the macro, fiscal, monetary, and trade databases that the MTI team uses for economic monitoring and analytical purposes,

• Take part in the preparation of key strategic and integrative pieces and/or engagements in Croatia,

• Work closely with other Global Practices as needed,

• Participate in the policy dialogue with the authorities in Croatia and other stakeholders, in close collaboration with the Country Management Unit (CMU).

Selection Criteria

• Minimum of a Masters degree in Economics with five years of relevant professional experience (A completed PhD is equivalent to 3 years of relevant professional experience);

• Strong technical skills on macroeconomic, fiscal and growth issues and a track record in delivering high quality and technically sophisticated analytical work,

• Integrative skills in order to support the CMU in articulating its strategic thinking on macroeconomic issues, economic growth and poverty reduction and to articulate a coherent policy dialogue with the authorities,

• Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, and teamwork qualities,

• Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to a variety of complex evolving tasks to meet deadlines,

• High energy and demonstrated interest in achieving impact through analytical work and technical assistance for demanding and sophisticated clients.

• Effective verbal and written communications skills in English; Croatian language is optional.

• IT Technology and systems knowledge - Exhibits excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office package applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) and proficiency of technology or/and systems relevant to functional area.

Note: The selected candidate will be offered a one-year appointment, renewable for an additional one year, at the discretion of the World Bank Group, and subject to a lifetime maximum ET Appointment of two years. If an ET appointment ends before a full year, it is considered as a full year toward the lifetime maximum. Former and current ET staff who have completed all or any portion of their second-year ET appointment are not eligible for future ET appointments.
