In 2003, following the start of foreign military operations in Iraq, DRC became one of the first organisations to provide humanitarian assistance in the country and now operates in 11 governorates, including Anbar, Baghdad, Babel, Diyala, Duhok, Erbil, Karbala, Kirkuk, Najaf, Ninewa and Salah-al-Din.

Overall purpose of the role: Under the supervision of the Social Cohesion Project Manager, the Social Cohesion Assistant is responsible to contribute to direct implementation of day-to-day activities, engage local stakeholders, community members, and youth in DRC programming, and contributing to project recording keeping, reporting, and an active culture of organizational learning to support the successful delivery of a peacebuilding project in Diyala.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field visits to assess, implement and monitor all the livelihoods activities, like business and financial management training and business grants using as much as possible an age, gender and diversity approach, in order to fully understand community needs and priorities.
  • Support with weekly and daily work planning for implementation of project activities in your location.
  • Identify and assess the needs of various communities and suggest possible solutions in coordination with the project manager
  • Support the business advisor (Specialist) in the business and financial management training and organize the training.
  • Contribute to ongoing conflict analysis and provide feedback to the project Manager on changes in local conflict dynamics and possible impact on programming.
  • Support the project manager with day-to-day implementation of project activities including mobilization of communities, facilitation of community dialogue sessions, training and mentoring conflict prevention and management participants and regularly liaise with youth groups DRC is collaborating with on the project.
  • Arrange logistics in preparation of the different project activities in coordination with support staff
  • Contribute to regular reporting and documentation of project activities
  • Carry out the proper collection, use and storage of project data, in compliance with DRC policy.
  • Carry out administrative and other tasks as requested by the Social Cohesion Project Manager

Other:

  • Ensure adherence to DRC national staff policy guidelines and Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with DRC AGD policy and AGD programmatic minimum standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the zero-tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policy
  • Ensure compliance with DRC guidelines and policies on HR, admin, finance, and supply.
  • Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by the Peacebuilding Project Manager.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • At least two years of experience working with non-governmental organizations
  • Demonstrated work experience with communities conducting community dialogue facilitation exercises
  • Demonstrated ability to provide trainings and build capacity of other staff using positive learning techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in programming engaging youth
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people effected by conflict; previous experience in delivering humanitarian programming is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of gender and protection mainstreaming; a commitment to apply an age, gender and diversity (AGD) approach to programming.

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

University degree, preferably in social sciences
