Context

The Resource Mobilization (REM) Due Diligence Specialist is a member of the Clearing House (CLH) unit. S/He is the focal point for ICRC staff on all issues related to the screening of private sector partners and donors, in accordance with the organization’s framework and policies on the topic. S/he plays a strategic role in assessing and monitoring the relationship with private sector entities to ensure that it does not adversely affect the ICRC’s reputation and ability to carry out its neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian activities. S/he liaises with donor relationship managers to provide guidance and ensure appropriate oversight in this domain. S/he is accountable for enhancing awareness of and embedding compliance with the relevant framework and policies consistently throughout the entire organization.

Main Tasks

• Manages individual screening cases, conducting specialized due diligence research and media scanning based on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk audit reports, secondary sources and other internal sources, and producing a due diligence analysis.
• Coordinates with the relevant functions across the institution to ensure that all risks are taken into consideration and defines appropriate mitigating measures.
• Manages the screening requests pipeline, liaising with concerned line managers, units, and delegations.
• Identifies, escalates and provides recommendations on relevant cases to the Review Committee, and functions as secretariat for the Review Committee.
• Maintains an overview of the risks related to individual donors and partners and regularly informs the Assembly members.
• Processes media monitoring from internal and external providers and distributes relevant information to key stakeholders, upgrading risk gradings of the cases where necessary.
• Supports and advises the REM division in responding to donors’ queries on ethical screening, policies, and procedures.
• Supports the development of the internal framework, guidance documents and communication on due diligence.
• Provides assistance to National Societies who may require donor screening.
• Engages with external stakeholders on due diligence assessment policies, strategy and practice.

Selection Requirements

• 5 -9 years professional experience.
• Good understanding of private sector engagement in the humanitarian landscape and key trends in private sector partnerships and fundraising.
• Successful working experience in different geographical and cultural environments, within the ICRC or another humanitarian or international organization (ICRC experience is an asset).
• Experience in managing complex, cross-team projects and working efficiently and effectively across multiple priorities.
• Strong and demonstrated experience in Business and Human Rights, and broad, industry-specific knowledge of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory and voluntary frameworks and compliance standards an asset (ISO, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), UK Modern Slavery Act, OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises).
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, Law, International Relations, or related fields.
• Customer focused, working with discretion across the organization from operational fundraising to the highest senior leadership.
