Background Information - Job-specific

Under the guidance and supervision of the Administrative Officer, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to Head of Office, operations staff, Consultants and Experts and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors, ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Functional Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services/Protocol Services
  • Proper use of vehicle
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
  • Provides Administrative & logistical support and ensures availability office supplies
  • Immediate action in case of accident

1. Provides reliable and secure driving services and protocol services:

  • Driving office vehicles for the transport of the Head of Office, operations staff, Consultants and Experts and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors
  • Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items; and
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

2. Ensures proper use of vehicle:

  • Through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs,
  • Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

3. Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle:

  • Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.;
  • Performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.

4. Provides Administrative & logistical support and ensures availability office supplies:

  • Packaging/packing of material received for dispatch; labeling, inserting material in envelopes and tracking outgoing mail;
  • Collection of invoices from Vendors, contacting Vendors for any information and documentation to be provided or received;
  • Support in local shopping /purchases including ordering and pickup of office supply
  • Operates photocopying and duplicating machines, binding, and filing;
  • Assist / support in physical verification of assets;
  • Support in archiving of documents and items

5. Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent; drivers training with valid driver’s license for B, C and D categories.
  • Three years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record is required.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs is required.
  • Fluency in French is required. Arablic lanaguage is deairable.
