Overview

• Have a valid driver's license (category B)
• Proven 8 years of experience as driver
• Proven 2 years of driving experience with an INGO
• Proven experience with LHD 4x4 vehicle such as Toyota Hardtop

Introduction

1. Context

DRC has been present in West and Central Africa since 1998. DRC's regional office for West Africa & Americas is based in Dakar, Senegal, and covers twelve countries outside Senegal. The Cameroon country office opened in 2018 and currently comprises a coordination office in the capital Yaoundé, a base in Bamenda covering the Northwest region, a base in Garoua Boulaï covering the Adamaoua and East regions, and a base in Maroua for the Far North.

DRC’s interventions in these areas include providing assistance to vulnerable populations, especially IDPs and refugees to enable them to meet their basic needs, shelter and protection, providing durable solutions to the ultra-poor while rendering them resilient to shocks via resilience and peacebuilding activities. Due to the lack of emergency response services to the newly displaced in the NWSW regions, the DRC has stepped in with emergency protection and food assistance in the NW region in collaboration with two national organizations as partners.

2. Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Response Project Manager based in Bamenda, the driver's mission will be to provide support in driving vehicles for the travel of staff and partners, as well as the transport of various equipment and supplies in the project implementation area.

3. Responsibilities

A. Driving

• Responsible for any vehicle he/she is driving, transporting authorized DRC staff on official duty and cargo to the points of destination

• Adjust its driving speed according to road conditions and drives more carefully in poor road and weather conditions.

• Ensure the vehicle has all mandatory documentation (carte rose, registration certificate, insurance, etc.).

• Fill out the vehicle logbook and ensure passenger signature for every trip

• Make sure a discharge of responsibility for any non-DRC person boarding the vehicle is filled

  B. Maintenance

• Perform daily vehicle check (engine oil, brake oil, tire pressure, wiper fluid, radiator fluid, etc...).

• Fill the daily check sheet and notify the problems encountered

• Inform his manager of any damage caused to the vehicle, any repairs or maintenance required.

• Perform all small necessary repairs for the proper functioning of the vehicle

• Keep the vehicle clean at all times (interior and exterior) and clean it regularly.

• Ensure the vehicle has all equipment and tools.

• Ensure the vehicle has a first aid kit up to date.

• Performs a monthly physical inventory of tools, equipment and first aid kit.

  C. Loading/Unloading

• Loads/unloads the vehicle and makes sure to have taken all the necessary measures for the correct mooring of the load when moving the vehicle.

• Respects and enforces the total authorized weight for the load as well as the total number of authorized passengers in the vehicle.

  D. Safety and security

• Responsible for the safety and security of people and goods transported in the vehicle

• Informs the safety manager in the event of a problem on the road

• Ensure the vehicle is always at minimum half a tank and refueled when necessary.

• Responsible for ensuring that all passengers fasten their seat belts.

• Ensures that the vehicle has all stickers stuck on the vehicle (DRC, no weapons, etc.).

• Ensures the vehicle has signaling tools (triangle, fluorescent safety jacket, etc…).

• Respect and comply with DRC’s instructions in the event of road checks or in the event of a roadblock by armed elements.

• Implement duties in line with the DRC Code of Conduct and represent DRC in a good way

• Respect for national and DRC driving rules and regulations.

4. Qualifications

• Have a valid driver's license (category B)

• Proven 2 years of driving experience with an INGO rovide work certificate or attestation of work)
• Proven experience with LHD 4x4 vehicle such as Toyota Hardtop
• Basic knowledge in vehicle repairs and maintenance
• Ability to work under pressure, maintain calm and cooperative attitude at all times
• Knowledge of local areas and willingness to work in a challenging security environment
• Security and safety training is a plus
• Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures
• Must be able to maintain high level of confidentiality regarding work-related information and data

5. General regulations

• The employee must follow DRC's instructions on security, confidentiality, and ethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Accountability Framework
• The employee must not engage in any other remunerated activity during the term of the DRC contract without prior authorization
• The employee must not engage in any activity that could adversely affect DRC or the implementation of any project during the term of the DRC contract
• The employee must not give media interviews or post photos related to DRC programs or share other materials without prior permission
• The employee must return all equipment loaned by DRC to perform the work after the end of the contract period or upon request by DRC.
