TITLE: Driver

TEAM/PROGRAMME: LOCATION: Kabul Main Office

Level 1: A basic criminal record background (DBS) check is required/equivalent police record check.

ROLE PURPOSE: The purpose of job is driving SCI vehicle by consideration of safety – security and traffic rules and regulation.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Complete a vehicle shift change checklist at the start of every shift including all interior/exterior/engine items on the checklist, and documents.

• Maintain daily vehicle usage logbook, ensuring that passengers sign off at the end of each trip.

• Advise and supervise workshop for routine vehicle maintenance/repair.

• Receive and follow instructions for transporting staff, visitors and equipment/material.

• Follow government traffic rules/regulations and SC Safe Driver Manual and any other instructions given by Officer/Fleet.

• Follow SC Security Plan, particularly with regard to driver responsibilities to help with safety and security: routine and in emergencies.

• Report security incidents or accidents to supervisor/security or next level supervisor immediately or ASAP when they occur.

• Know all streets, neighbourhoods, roads and/or towns in assigned location(s), particularly regarding safety/security.

• Carry UHF radio and being familiar with radio usage and discipline

• Being familiar with defensive driving technics and understand that safety and security of staff/ consultants is the top responsibility of driver.

• Comply with all SCI driving policy

• Report security threats, concern and incidents to SSD immediately.

• Keep SCI vehicles well maintained and roadworthy

• Carry functional means of communication with emergency numbers programmed

• Make sure all movements are security cleared.

• Make sure passengers use seatbelt at all time and keep the vehicle doors and windows locked.

• Being familiar with risks associated with travel and follow mitigation strategies.

• Be aware of presence of criminal gang/individuals in the city+ high ways and monitor all suspect activities and individuals.

• Make sure all equipment such as first aid box, fire extinguisher, logbook and maintenance tools are kept secure and are used properly.

• Do not accept unauthorized passengers.

• Switch ON & OFF office or Guest house Generators, keep record of generators timing in the logbook, fuelling of generator when required & cleaning of filters.

• Any other job-related assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum requirement 3-5 years proven working experience in INGOs, UN, USAID.

• Valid driving Licence.

• 12th grade education preferred; literacy required

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license

• Basic spoken/written English

• Spoken and written local language

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Having experience of armoured vehicle skilfully is preferred.

• Understanding of Afghan driving rules and traffic laws/practices

• Basic understanding of car mechanics
