Organizational Setting

FAO’s office for Lebanon is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Lebanon. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level.

This position is based in FAO Representation in Beirut, Lebanon. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of Assistant FAOR-Administration and in close coordination with other Units and colleagues in the office.

Technical Focus

The Driver should hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record, proven driving experience, knowledge of local routes and traffic patterns, ability to operate GPS and navigation tools, and basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle issues. Additionally, familiarity with vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting is essential.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for driving the FAO team of FAO Representations. He / she ensure the safety, technical soundness and comfort of the vehicle(s) assigned. The incumbent performs the following duties: • Drive the project office personnel and their official visitors on official trips, and drive for the FAO Representative and his/ her visitors on occasions as necessary. • Meet personnel and official visitors at the airport; facilitate immigration, customs formalities, hotel check-in, and other local formalities. • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, transportation / vehicle related expenditures, vehicle servicing, repairs, etc. • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in clean conditions. • Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident; ensure that in this case all organizational and local / country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly. • Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications / items from and to the country office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required. • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident. • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma / Secondary education, academic or technical. • Possession of valid driver’s license. • Two years of relevant experience in driving functions with flawless, safe driving record. • Two years of previous experience in office/admin support functions • Experience with a UN Agency or International NGO is desirable • Good Command of Arabic; Working knowledge of English and/or French. • National of Lebanon

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work. • Good knowledge of the local driving rules and regulations. • Minor vehicle repair. • Safe driving manner. • Good knowledge of local conditions and roads • Ability to cope with extended working hours. • Possess a polite and friendly attitude and handle his/her passengers with utmost respect. • Systematic and structured approach to office/admin support assignments. • Exercise diligence and care in dealing with records and documents. • Ability to use standard office software, such as MS Office (Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel) etc. • Ability to use dedicated information systems and databases to insert data, make enquiries, retrieve and print reports. • Willingness to learn and use project applications. • Possess a cooperative spirit, flexibility and openness to work in an international environment, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural background. • High degree of punctuality and reliability. • Tidy appearance, courtesy, discretion and a high level of trustworthiness are essential personal attributes.
