Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The UNV will work within the OHCHR Pacific Office together with RCO and the PDF and other UN agencies to raise awareness on the CRPD and the rights of persons with disabilities both with the UNCT, OPDs and with external stakeholders.

CRPD has been ratified by 13 out of 16 countries covered by the Regional Office but reporting and implementation lags, as do programmes to ensure engagement with government and communities to make the rights in the treaty a reality. The core component of the UNVs work will be the promotion of the CRPD: organising and delivery of CRPD training and capacity building events to facilitate the ratification and implementation of the CRPD – this work will be in partnership with the PDF and other human rights actors in the region, eg. the Pacific Community (SPC).

The person will also support the UNCT’s Disability Inclusion officer where needed to promote Disability Inclusion across the UN. The UNV will be the first point of contact for the OHCHR on disability inclusion work. S/he will work under the supervision of the Regional Representative and as delegated, under the supervision of the Treaty Body Capacity Building Programme Office, and with support from the current/outgoing disability inclusion focal point.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Maintain close collaboration and meaningful partnerships with NOPDs and PDF - Support CRPD inclusion work through gathering disability inclusion data and tools to sup-port CRPD trainings and Organise trainings to promote CRPD ratification and roll out - Coordinate and collaborate its action with OHCHR’s Treaty Body Capacity Building Pro-gramme and the Officer implementing it in the Regional Office - Support joint UN programme fundraising and other fundraising for PDF and partner pro-grammes for disability inclusion - Support the work of the Disability Inclusion Working group, including but not limited to contributing Media and advocacy campaigns including social media posts; attending and providing secretariat services where needed, - Support the work of the UNCTs Disability Inclusion Officer to promote disability inclusion and the realisation of the rights of persons with disability across the UN system by deliver-ing trainings on disability inclusion; Drafting reports; Reviewing UN Joint proposals to en-sure Disability Inclusion mainstreaming; mapping existing activities.

REASONABLE ACCOMODATION

The UN system wishes to create an inclusive workplace and commits to taking appropriate measures to enable persons with disabilities to access and benefit equally from employment and other engagement opportunities such as volunteering, by providing reasonable accommodation. In this context, “reasonable accommodation” means necessary and appropriate modifications and adjustments not imposing a disproportionate or undue burden, where needed in a particular case, to ensure to persons with disabilities the enjoyment or exercise on an equal basis with others of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.[Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Article 2]
