Description of task

Important notice:

  • Persons with disabilities who is a national of Indonesia are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • The candidate for this position should have experience working on disability inclusion as well as on coordination for this topic.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Youth & Adolescent Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the national UN Volunteer Disability Inclusion Officer will:

  • Support Disability Focal point(s) in different programme areas across the office in promoting disability inclusion as the office’s cross-sectoral priority and other cross-sectoral priorities in the office (such as: adolescent development and gender equality).
  • Support the planning, monitoring, and drafting and dissemination of a situation analysis of Children with Disabilities looking at variety of angles including policy, technical, and institutional lenses, to inform policies and programme, especially in terms of coordination and partnership across sectors and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the development of office-wide knowledge products on disability inclusion, including sectoral recommendations for integration into cluster workplans.
  • Support programme priorities (i.e. inclusive education, humanitarian response, accessible WASH facilities, gender equality), including internal and external capacity building when it comes to the issues of disability inclusion
  • Promote adolescents and young people engagement, especially for adolescents and young people with disabilities, including in facilitating co-creation and participatory design process
  • Support the disability-inclusive aspects of management targets, such as managing disability score cards monitoring, improving office accessibility, recruitment and procurement whenever relevant
  • Promote the engagement of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in programme planning, monitoring, and implementation, including in humanitarian settings.
  • Promote universal design in communication assets and materials, including ensuring the accessibility of the organizations’ meetings, workshops, and other online and offline public engagement
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Social Works, Education, and/or related fields.
  • Master or higher qualification is preferable.

  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas will be required:

- Progressive experience in promoting disability inclusion (junior level)

- Extensive network with the communities and organizations of persons with disabilities

- Inclusive communication,

- Programme management and monitoring

  • At least 1 (one) year of professional work experience disability inclusion.

Language skills

  • Indonesian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Excellent interpersonal skills with strong facilitation skills, especially in working with young people

and children with disabilities.

• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work

inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members,

religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and

approaches of communications for development;

• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work

effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
