Background ----------

The Mass Markets team, part of the ER department, leads on the organization’s work in mass markets and individual giving, globally. External Relations is currently fundraising from the private sector in the US, UK, Germany, Sweden. External Relations has bold plans to scale its fundraising in Germany including investing in growing income from individual donors (mass marketing) via Face to Face and Digital channels. The mass marketing portfolio in Germany is expected to reach $9 million by 2023 and $24 million in 2025.

Scope and Authority -------------------

The post holder will develop and deliver a multi – year strategy to the VP of Mass Markets including recommendations on focus, channels, approach and overall direction of travel and the budgets required to deliver outlined returns. They will have the authority to make implementation decisions regarding the set-up of in-country private sector fundraising operation – this with the aim of improving financial returns to IRC in the short and long term to serve our beneficiaries.

Responsibility for Resources: -----------------------------

This position will lead existing and new fundraising staff (projected to be a team of eight) and consultants at IRC Deutschland.

Key Working Relationships -------------------------

- Dual reporting to the VP of Strategic Growth and the Managing Director IRC DE. - Colleagues within External Relations in particular within Mass Markets - Colleagues in Market – such as IRC staff e.g., in Germany - IT/Tech/Systems & Platforms teams - Finance, Legal, HR - Fundraising consultants, agencies, and other key suppliers - Global Emergency Response Associate Director

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Provide strategic leadership, management and coordination of the German private sector fundraising team specifically designed to raise income from individuals. - Collaborate with External Relations colleagues globally to develop and implement yearly fundraising and engagement strategy. - Supervise the production of annual budgets for private sector fundraising. - Build delivery, budgeting and reporting plans for overall fundraising and expenditure targets and ensure all key objectives are achieved by partnering with fundraising colleagues. - Manage donor data to abide by relevant legislation and IRC policies. - Lead the in-year plan for each income stream against the agreed budget and plan. - Ensure that the fundraising team is effectively working with all other functions within German, External Relations, and other divisions in IRC. - Ensure that within each of the income streams opportunities to maximize income are being followed in line with wider industry trends. - In collaboration with Finance and IT, ensure reporting systems between fundraising and finance are set up and consistently maintained to ensure accurate monthly accounts and timely reforecasts. - Review and assess all fundraising activities in nominated functions to ensure the best use of people, resources, and systems to deliver organisational objectives. - Empower and mentor the fundraising team and foster continuous improvement across functions. - Develop and maintain a positive working relationship within the fundraising department and across other divisions in Germany and globally within IRC. - Lead departmental communication and ensure an efficient, effective, smooth running fundraising department.

Other accountabilities ----------------------

- Follow the culture and policies governing IRC in Germany and within External Relations. - Represent IRC in Germany in a manner that ensures appropriate communication with our supporters and collaborators. - Attend meetings, conference and training courses as advised. - Report regularly to the German supervisory board on private fundraising achievements and targets - Member of the German Mass Markets team

Qualifications

Person specification --------------------

Crucial:

- Experience of running a multi-channel fundraising programs including fundraising from members of the public i.e., Individual Giving (mass marketing) with shown results and income growth. - Experience of sustainer fundraising (regular giving). - Experience of leading donor acquisition programs including via multiple channels such as for example, via Face to Face, Digital, Telemarketing, DRTV and the like. - Experience of managing supporter stewardship and retention programs. - Excellent German and English language skills - Experience of running fundraising Teams, agencies, and supplier relationships. - A hands-on attitude

Desirable: -----------

- Previous working experience in an International Humanitarian Organisation - Direct experience of digital fundraising.
