Context

We believe in a world where the rights of displaced and vulnerable persons are protected during crisis. We do this through our programmes, where we provide assistance to meet immediate humanitarian needs, prevent further displacement and contribute to durable solutions. One of the ways we achieve this is by fundraising from private individuals who want to help our work.

The External Relations Department (ExRel) is responsible for engaging with private individuals and organisations to build awareness about NRC and raise funds for the organisations work for people forced to flee. To achieve this, ExRel operates across four main areas; Public Engagement ensuring that the voice of NRC and the people we serve are being heard; Global Fundraising Raising unearmarked funds from private individuals for NRCs mission; Donor Management securing our income from regular donors; and Corporate Relations collaborating with the private corporate sector to attract and maintain grants and pro bono resources for the organisation. We also have a Governance function that crosses all these functions focused on legal, financial, human resource and other ‘fit for purpose’ activities.

We are looking for an experienced business leader with a strategic mind-set, tech-savvy, able to discuss finance good governance experience and excellent stakeholder management skills to assume overall accountability for the strategic development and execution of our Donor Management, finance and governance team.

The vision and skills you will bring

Each year NRC signs up tens of thousands of new individuals who want to support our work by donating to us each month. Your team builds and maintains the systems that run all this. Everything from the sign-up systems used in multiple countries, multiple partners and in multiple locations. Through the critical systems that take payments every month in multiple currencies and ending in the support service that answers donor questions and keeps them supporting our work. The team has ICT, analytics, operational and helpdesk staff. As well as managing this, ensuring our income and legal compliance, you will be using analytics to help us better understand our supporters. You will be introducing new tools like marketing automation platforms, and building a vision for what it takes to have efficient customer-centric systems and services that can scale to globally.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the executive director of ExRel you will assume overall accountability for the strategic development and execution of our Donor management section including finance and governance leadership. Responsibilities include;

  • Ensure that the sections Donor Management, Development and support and Governance, reach their targets and goals;
  • Protect and develop NRC regular donor base/portfolio globally, with loyalty, -upselling -and cross-selling activities;
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of an appropriate governance system (including overall processes, procedures and frameworks) across EXREL including managing legal entities for NRC, managing relationships with regulators, conducting audits to protect NRCs reputation and income, reduce legal risk to NRC, and ensure efficient governance of legal entities operated for fundraising in multiple countries;
  • Accountable for the overall financial overview of EXREL and its financial tools and templates. Working as the interface with global finance for financial planning, forecasting, reporting etc. Drive and support financial processes across EXREL (such as the budgeting process and monitoring and reporting of financial results) be accountable for compliance with policies and guidelines;
  • Responsible for overall staffing plans in the sections, including staff resource allocation;
  • Accountable for maintaining and growing NRCs global unearmarked funding income from regular donors, whilst reducing overhead cost per NOK raised of that income. Including review of systems, identifying new innovations, leading on industry best practises etc;
  • Develop and operate global infrastructure to onboard donors / friends of NRC, take payments from them and build their loyalty. Ensuring these systems are global, legal, scalable, resilient, efficient, and good value for money to NRC. Be a good supplier of these tools, systems and data to Exrel Fundraising and Public Engagement sections who depend on them;
  • Responsible for the global regular donor experience of NRC ensuring donor loyalty and generosity;
  • Work with all ExRel sections as the lead for balanced scorecard / KPIs including regular reporting to NRC board and T3 reporting process;
  • Conduct analysis of regular donors to provide insights on segmentation, value, opportunities that can be used by other sections to improve their impact and enable them to improve their strategies e.g. fundraising;
  • Represent ExRel on various cross head office functions e.g. focal point for strategy, finance and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Be up to date on global fundraising trends, legislation and best practices to give a global NRC advisory function when fundraising is entering new markets and channels

What you will bring

  • Relevant higher education, preferably at Master degree level;
  • Documented experience, with minimum 5 years from relevant senior management/leadership level within the fields of performance management, organisational development, governance and finance;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, planning and budget processes;
  • Professional knowledge of management and leadership;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience representing at executive levels internally and externally;
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile;
  • Strong knowledge of standard ICT systems and tools;
  • Knowledge and expertise in both the humanitarian and private sector are an advantage;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, other languages are an advantage;
  • Strong ability to motivate and follow up colleagues;
  • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate.
