Marketing & Mobilization (M&M), a key part of External Relations (ER), is a dynamic team tasked with overseeing and executing communications and marketing, building the IRC’s global profile and brand, growing private revenue from deep donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences – all in the service of helping people facing the world’s worst humanitarian crises. In alignment with our Strategy100 commitments, M&M has launched bold multi-year campaigns that raise funding, profile and influence. M&M continuously innovates the IRC brand, which enables us to increase awareness, understanding of, and support for, our work.

The Content & Creative team, a core part of M&M, consists of award-winning creative specialists and idea partners, developing powerful communications and experiences to engage audiences and ultimately to deliver on ER ambitions and objectives.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced, energized and hard-working storyteller and digital marketing writer who cares deeply about humanitarian causes. As a key member of the Creative & Content team, you will conceptualize, write and edit digital communications that help to fundraise for the IRC and build strong supporter journeys. The focus of this position will be on writing thoughtful and compelling copy, primarily for email, that encourages donations and engages, retains and thanks supporters.

This person will be creative, collaborative and able to act in a fast-paced environment.

Major Responsibilities:

- Write and edit cohesive and donor-centric communications for global markets, including the U.S., U.K., Germany and Sweden, with a focus on digital channels, primarily email. - Write emails related to different parts of the supporter journey, including emails to welcome new donors, cultivate existing supporters and reactivate lapsed donors. - Write engaging copy that encourages people to become donors, sustainers and mid-level supporters and inspires them to stay with our organization and give more support. - Develop and collaborate on out-of-the-box digital campaigns that raise funds and awareness for the organization. - Write and edit copy for additional channels, including Face-to-Face fundraising, telemarketing (scripts), print marketing and advertising communications. - Be an IRC brand ambassador, ensuring copy is on-brand, effective and highlights the dignity and resilience of refugees and displaced families. - Be a strong storyteller, able to write communications that spotlight the courageous people we serve and how donors are empowering them to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. - Interview staff, donors, volunteers and clients about the impact of the IRC. - Writes quickly, especially when an emergency happens in one of the countries where we work. This person should also take feedback well and adjust content accordingly. - Work on other writing projects, as assigned by the Senior Writer and Senior Director, Creative & Content. - Take initiative in learning about, and staying up to date on, our programs and responses to crises around the world.

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

· 3-5 years experience writing digital marketing copy, with strong preference given to candidates with experience in fundraising.

· Has a consistent track record developing and writing copy that encourages a strong and engaged supporter journey.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Is an outstanding writer with a proven ability to produce content that sways hearts and minds and encourages people to continually support our work. - Understands and promotes ethical storytelling that is truthful, nuanced, educational, empowering and in the best interest of the families we're helping around the world. - Creates materials that are focused on cultivation and retention, demonstrating the impact of a donor’s generosity. - Can demonstrate an understanding of how to write marketing copy directly asking for donations. - Is an excellent proofreader and editor. - Has the ability to translate programmatic language into strong consumer-facing copy. - Knowledge of AP Style. - Is deadline-drive and can write copy quickly. - Writing that is focused on what gets results based on performance and testing. - Has a genuine excitement for showcasing the stories of our clients and highlighting our humanitarian work. - Loves collaboration and brainstorming and can work well with colleagues across the organization. - Is passionate about our cause and seeks to help transform the lives of people affected by humanitarian crises. - Is a problem solver who’s able to navigate complexity and ambiguity to get to the heart of and cultivate a great story that motivates potential donors and existing supporters.

Working Environment:

This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace.
