Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) is an international team that is tasked with building the IRC’s profile and brand, supporting the growth of private revenue from deeper donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences. The team is responsible for all of IRC's brand, communications, creative and content, and digital engagement efforts.

Digital Engagement (part of Marketing & Mobilization) leads efforts to increase IRC’s access to priority online audiences, attracting new supporters, and sharing an integrated digital supporter experience. These elements are designed with the strategy of inspiring audiences to give more, do more, and stay longer with the IRC. Digital professionals include communications specialists, content creators, digital campaigners, and analysts. This department directs a team of social media and web strategists and works across all functions in the Marketing and Mobilization team. They deliver to the US, UK, Sweden, Germany, Brussels, South Korea, and other global markets.

Job Overview

As a member of the IRC’s Global Digital Engagement team, the Digital Content and SEO (Senior?) Officer will be focused primarily on growing organic search traffic for Rescue.org, with a secondary mandate to execute the website strategy for high-value partnerships.

This role’s primary mandate will be to work with the Website Strategist and Associate Director-Global to create and execute a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy for the website that also ladders up to broader communications and brand goals. This role requires extensive collaboration across departments. They will be expected to manage from start to finish editorial web projects that involve multiple stakeholders, as well as work closely with MarTech and mass markets colleagues to optimize the site.

As an SEO specialist skilled in storytelling, they will write, create, and edit digital web content. Their meticulous attention to detail, research capabilities, data analysis, and expertise in SEO best practices, including keyword and competitor research as well as backlinks, will be instrumental in driving user traffic to our website.

They will both create new content and provide valuable recommendations on how to enhance the existing content on the website, all taking into consideration editorial aspects, user experience (UX), and search engine optimization (SEO). They will also collaborate with Marketing Technology colleagues to ensure the IRC is following and staying up-to-date on best practices for technical SEO.

Major responsibilities

80%: SEO strategy and implementation

● Work with the Website Strategist and Associate Director-Global to create an organic search engine optimization (SEO) strategy that both increases traffic and engagement on Rescue.org and ladders up to broader IRC communications and brand goals.

● Execute the SEO strategy to increase traffic and engagement on Rescue.org in collaboration with the Website Strategist and the Associate Director. Keep a close eye on analytics to continually evolve and improve upon existing plans.

● Conceive, develop and write web content to motivate our supporters and encourage them to take action and donate.

● Work with the local and global fundraising teams and CRO specialists to develop tests to ensure the website is optimized for donations and user journeys.

● Serve as the team expert on SEO, staying abreast of evolving trends and feeding into content plans.

● Project manage assigned website projects from start to finish. Collaborate closely with, seek input from, and manage opportunities with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including the Experiential Marketing, Events, Entertainment Relations, Fundraising, Digital, Brand, Creative, and other teams.

● Create reactive content based on trends, breaking news and acute crises.

● Conduct comprehensive SEO audits and implement on-page and off-page optimization strategies. Collaborate with UX, MarTech and content teams to formulate website architecture recommendations, including content organization, page hierarchy, URL structure, meta data, headings, etc.

● Conduct site audits, keyword research, and competitor analyses

● Collaborate with the marketing and technology teams on technical SEO audits and to develop new features for the website and ensure its technical stability and security.

● Assist in editing and proofreading.

20%: Website strategy for high value partnerships

● Write and produce high value partnerships content for the website, including overview materials, client and impact storytelling, web pieces around key moments, and other cross-cutting stories related to different partners or programmatic themes.

● Manage the upkeep of partnerships pages, including the listing of partner logos, names, and recognition on the website.

● Identify opportunities to incorporate high value partnerships in overall web content strategy.

● Project manage website projects related to high value partnerships from start to finish, including ensuring there is a clear review process for a range of stakeholders. Collaborate closely with, seek input from, and manage opportunities with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including the Experiential Marketing, Events, Entertainment Relations, Fundraising, Digital, Brand, Creative, and other teams.

Job requirements

Work experience

● 6 years of experience in SEO with a focus on improving search engine rankings.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

● Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Ability to communicate complicated subjects to a consumer audience and to tailor content for organic search.

● Expert in SEO best practices and latest industry trends. Proven experience increasing and optimizing organic search traffic.

● Strong facilitation and project management skills required.

● Ability to tailor internal communication and advocacy, and to navigate complex environments with competing priorities.

● Experience managing complex projects from start to finish.

● Experience in using SEO tools like Google Analytics, SEMRush, Moz, Google Search Console, and/or others.

● Experience in using Google Analytics to generate reports and strategize content.

● Experience in monitoring and conducting audits for technical SEO best practices, and in working with developers to optimize site performance.

● Self-motivated and comfortable pitching ideas

● Strong organizational skills and time management, as well as the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and complete parallel tasks in a fast-paced environment.

● Experience working with content management systems, such as WordPress or Drupal. Ability to independently produce website content

● Enthusiasm for the IRC’s work and for telling stories that highlight our clients and educate the public on our issues

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

● Experience creating content related to the humanitarian sector or humanitarian crises

● Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure

● Understanding of user experience testing and optimization for conversion and increasing organic revenue

● Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner

● Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and website structure optimization.

● SEO certifications are a plus

Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
