Expected duration The contract is for 6 months, 5 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities This consultancy is located in the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and will be based in The Hague but work can be done remotely. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies.

SCB is OCHA's communications and public advocacy team supporting headquarters and field operations in public outreach on humanitarian action. The Branch oversees senior leadership public advocacy and media, including messaging, speeches, campaigns, and social media.

The consultant reports to the Chief of the Public Advocacy and Campaigns Unit in The Hague.

2. Tasks and deliverables: Support Digital Campaigns and Social Media Content Production - Implement recommendations from Digital Review of UNOCHA's corporate platforms related to digital content production and design. - Develop new types of digital content to advance OCHA’s digital advocacy and campaigns work. - Create a series of digital asset templates and guidance for use for common themes and communications priorities (e.g. priority humanitarian issues, online fundraising and regularly occurring events) adapted for each key OCHA social media platform. - Create high-impact social media content in multiple languages and formats, including but not limited to social media graphics, quote cards, GIFs, short animations and data visualizations. - Use creative video editing techniques to produce videos optimized for a variety of social media channels, in particular vertical videos for Instagram. - Create bespoke and customizable digital and social media assets for key digital campaigns including for the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) and World Humanitarian Day (WHD). - Develop and implement a multi-platform strategy to reach a younger audience (Gen Z and younger) and galvanize their actions in support of OCHA’s mandate - Conceptualize and produce regularly scheduled live content on UN Women’s social media platforms (Instagram Lives, Twitter spaces, etc.) - Provide training and support to OCHA's digital team in SCB and colleagues in country and regional offices on best practices in content production and digital design

Analytics and Community Management - Produce weekly, monthly and yearly analytics reports. Gauge reach, engagement and other performance measures for social media posts, accounts and campaigns. Use KPIs to monitor OCHA’s impact . - Develop and implement a social media moderation and community management strategy for all English global social media channels. - Actively moderate comments on all social media channels, engage with the community, intervene as appropriate to answer questions and guide the conversation, investigate issues when necessary and flag potential risks to the Social Media Manager. Social Media Influencer engagement and partnerships - Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies, including with UN entities, NGOs, partners, private sector, major social media platforms and digital creative agencies to expand OCHA’s social reach and influence. - Develop and implement a digital influencer outreach plan for OCHA’s global English social media channels. - Expand and organize OCHA’s database of influencers, build relationships with key influencers, coordinate strategic targeted outreach and find opportunities to activate this network to amplify key messages and support digital outreach.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, design or related field. Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience and a proven track record as a communications and advocacy specialist, journalist, PR or spokesperson, or a combination of the above. Experience developing quality digital and social media content is required. Experience implementing a digital campaigns required. Expert knowledge of digital platforms Excellent analytical skills Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
