Development Intern

Overview

Support IRC's development team in fundraising, donor relations, and community projects.

You have:

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent graduate
• Students pursuing degrees in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, business, or other related fields are encouraged to apply
• Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts; adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
• Previous experience or desire to learn about fundraising, event management, or donations management preferred, especially in the nonprofit industry
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, additional proficiency in a refugee language preferred
• Reliable, self-motivated, independent, and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed
• Access to a vehicle and willing to use personal vehicle to transport donated and purchased items for delivery preferred
• Background check is required for this position

Job Description

Scope of Intern Work:

This intern will provide a wide array of support to IRC SLC’s development team, primarily focused on support for resource development. Working with the development coordinator, the development intern will support efficient in-kind donation processes, help maintain donor relations, and support community group volunteer days and service projects. The development intern will gain insight into the processes necessary to run an efficient, multi-faceted nonprofit that builds relationships with donors.

Commitment:

At least 10 hours a week for at least 12 weeks, starting in May 2022. Kindly note, at this time, the internship is unpaid.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Events

· Assist with preparation, outreach, and gathering donations for large IRC events, especially fundraising events

· Photograph events that showcase the work of the IRC

· Support donor communications, including donor acknowledgements such as phone calls and post cards.

In-Kind Donations

· Support summer preparations for major in-kind donations drives: Winter Clothing Drive and Light One Candle Holiday Gift Drive

· Support receiving, organization, tracking, and distribution of in-kind donations in storage units, warehouse and office storage.

· Build capacity of donation drives by crafting promotional and educational materials.

· Support relationship with Bicycle Collective and ensure demand for bicycles is met via partnership.

· Support donation records processing, including entering client and donor in-kind records into database systems.

· Support donor communications via Google Voice.

· Other duties as needed, such as help with any paperwork and filing, and attending and participating in Development team meetings as availability allows.

Learning Objectives:

· Understand how to write donor acknowledgements and their importance in maintaining donor relationship.

· Better understand inventory best practices and streamlining processes to create efficiency and service delivery.

· Gain a better understanding of the refugee resettlement process and how the IRC fits into that process

Qualifications

Requirements:

- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent graduate - Students pursuing degrees in the fields of communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, business, or other related fields may be particularly interested in this position and are encouraged to apply

- Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts; adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies. - Previous experience or desire to learn about fundraising, event management, or donations management preferred, especially in the nonprofit industry. Graphic design skills and knowledge of photography/Photoshop is a plus. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, additional proficiency in a refugee language preferred. - Reliable, self-motivated, independent, and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed - Access to a vehicle and willing to use personal vehicle to transport donated and purchased items for delivery preferred

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
