UNICEF WCARO needs a dedicated designer to develop high quality visuals to communicate on key learnings from the Building resilience in the Sahel (BRS) Programme.

The assignment is specifically envisaged to communicate on and disseminate in a compelling way on resilience-related learnings through multiple platforms (social media, conferences and workshops, concept notes, etc.)

In light of this, the following research opportunities have been identified for the production of infographics and other visuals. The final list of deliverables will be confirmed during the inception phase of this assignment:

1. Strengthening the continuum of nutrition care: This deliverable will promote the learnings from the Integrated Research of Acute Malnutrition (IRAM) regional study; including on the efficiency and effectiveness of multisectoral packages of community-led interventions (supported jointly by UNICEF and other actors) to provide a continuum of nutrition care, from prevention to treatment and build resilience to the nutrition crisis in the Sahel.
2. Strengthening the continuum of protection care for children and women in the Sahel: This deliverable will help visualize the multisectoral components of the continuum of care and communicate on key strategies for protection system strengthening in the Sahel.
3. Strengthening social protection systems to manage shocks and stresses and promote resilience capacities: This deliverable will promote the learnings from the Unified Social Registries operational research conducted in Mali, Mauritania and Niger, as well as findings from other research in the region.
4. Strengthening adolescent girls’ resilience: This deliverable will promote the learnings from the mixed-methods and multi-level participatory research study around adolescent girls’ empowerment and resilience in the Sahel conducted by the Population Council in 2022-23 in Mali, Mauritania and Niger. It will target different external audiences including Sahelian adolescent girls.
5. Ongoing research of social behaviour change in the Sahel.

The Designer/Consultant will develop infographics to communicate on the learnings and key findings from recent studies focused on resilience programmatic approaches. To achieve the planned results, the incumbents will coordinate with UNICEF Country Offices and partners, as well as with UNICEF’s Regional Office for West and Central Africa (and potentially other regional bodies) and assure coherent regional advocacy and communication related to the programme.

Key deliverables

The consultants will be responsible for 5 deliverables, consisting each in a set of infographics to communicate on key findings of a UNICEF led research.

• Deliverable 1: Visuals to communicate on findings from the Integrated Research of Acute Malnutrition (IRAM) regional study.
• Deliverable 2: Visuals to communicate on strategies for the continuum of protection care.
• Deliverable 3: Visuals to communicate on study reports on social protection systems strengthening.
• Deliverable 4: Visuals to communicate on findings from the research study around adolescent girls’ empowerment and resilience in the Sahel.
• Deliverable 5: Visuals to communicate on another study report, to be confirmed.

Tasks

The consultant will cover the following tasks:

• Become familiar with each study report for which the visuals are needed and hold preliminary interviews with concerned UNICEF staff in WCARO and with Country Offices (if applicable) to determine the type and scope of the visuals to be produced, and identify the key metrics to include in each visual – 1 day per deliverable
• Develop the visuals in line with UNICEF guidance and brandbook – 3 to 7 days per deliverable
• Receive UNICEF comments (2 or 3 waves of comments maximum) and address them until the products are finalized and approved by UNICEF WCARO – 2 days per deliverable

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education · Master’s degree or equivalent in fine arts/digital art and/or multimedia design, journalism, communication or related fields.

Experience · Proven experience in using Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator/ InDesign/ After Effects · Strong graphic design portfolio demonstrating breadth, creativity, and craftsmanship. · The ability to animating vectors with any software will be an asset.

Language Requirements · English fluency. French is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
