Overview

The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is an emergency preparedness and response tool for WFP and the wider humanitarian community. The mandate of the UNHRD Network is to assist the population living in countries affected by natural disasters or complex emergencies, through a prepositioning of relief and survival items and their rapid mobilization to the affected countries, on behalf of UN humanitarian agencies, governments and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. UNHRD manages five (6) strategically located hub worldwide (Panama, Ghana, Italy, Malaysia, Spain and UAE), and holds stockpiles of emergency relief items and support equipment, including WFP corporate response stocks, currently valued at USD50m.

UNHRD’s digitalization process has undergone significant changes in the last two years. The purpose of this role is to complete development and integration of several platforms providing an interactive and un-obstructive possibility for stakeholders to engage with UNHRD activity. Deep data analysis and predictive modelling should eventually guide future decision-making.

JOB PURPOSE

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the UNHRD Information Management and Reports Officer, and the direct supervision of the UNHRD lead Data Scientist the incumbent will support to:

  1. Leverage UNHRD data to inform decision making using data science techniques;

  2. Merge and aggregate different datasets from WFP’s internal SAP system using Python programming language to create data sources needed to feed dashboards and reports useful for UNHRD staff and external partners;

  3. Liaise with respective units on new digitalization projects, such as the Foundry data platform and the planned Customer Relationship Management platform;

  4. Build and customize Tableau reports in line with business requirements and maintain them on the UNHRD digital platform;

  5. Do other duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

You have a Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistic or similar.

Experience

You have:

  • For this Junior consultancy, we are looking for candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience

  • Knowledge of data visualization and visual storytelling, preferably Tableau;

  • Knowledge of Python and SQL programming languages;

  • Deep understanding of data wrangling techniques;

  • High-level understanding of humanitarian logistics and awareness of the humanitarian context;

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and experience with time series forecasting and recommender systems;

Language

  • You are fluent in oral and written English;

  • Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.

DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Familiarity with the data integration software Foundry would be an advantage.
